I started my pre-op diet on Oct. 25th. It has been 6 days and i have already lost 8.8 pounds . it's been really rough for me. I am allowed 1 Protein Shake for Breakfast, 1 Protein shake for lunch and for dinner i am allowed 4oz of lean protein.. That's only about a bite or 2, i measured my shot glasses that i collect and they are 2 oz, so i can eat 2 shot glasses worth of protein a day. 64 ounces of clear fluids, no carbonation and no caffeine. I know it will be worth it in the end but i still have a normal stomach now and i am still hungry, 2 little bites of food and 2 Protein Shakes don't really do much for me since i am up and awake from 5 am to 10 pm.... ;( Hopefully it will get easier as the days go, my surgery is in 8 days so it's not too far away.

enjoy your pre op diet, as you will miss it after the surgery :)

During my pre-op I took a Premier Protein every 3 hours (9am-12pm-3pm-6pm). Now (1 month out) I can only sip 1/3 of a single shake before I literally explode!

It’s only been half a day and I have a headache. :(

That's because you are probably starving physically! This is not what you should do - try drinking more Protein Shakes, your goal is to get lots of Protein (200-250% of your daily value), and less than 20% of daily fats and carbs. Try keeping within 700-800 calories/day. Plus drink plain Water as much as possible - until you drink and pee simultaneously. :) That will make ensure your body is not starving (having lots of protein), but you'll be loosing weight 24/7. That was exactly my pre-op diet, btw!

My meal plan from my nutritionist saids less than 5 premier shakes. 4 to 6 cups of liquids
And 2 cups of veggies.
( all per day)
This pre-op!

Yep, sounds like a great plan. I just skipped veggies completely and sticked to 4 premier shakes/day + Water. 10 days of pre-op has been very smooth

May I know why no veggies?

I agree with poster "temkins". Drink your Protein Shakes, drink your regular Water, drink Protein water. Only focus on today. Do not think about the days ahead. Just get through the next hours of the day. Self talk is amazing. Tell yourself what a blessing this surgery will be. Tell yourself you can get through today.

What did your surgeon say you can have? What's your pre-op diet choices?

Sure! I took my pre-op diet as a very temporary task, so decided to keep it as simple, as possible. As a person who've tried dozens of various diets and nutrition plans, I figured out, that the most simple nutrition plan is the most efficient (for me personally!) That said, drinking one Protein Shake every 3 hours from 9 to 6 (had an alarm reminder on my phone) was much easier, without trying to fit some extra foods in between. Perhaps I'm just too lazy :)

Besides, since you'll be on liquid diet for the next 2-3 weeks post-op, I personally decided to give it a try before being shredded!

Ohhhh... do you feel like the shakes fills you up good? Or is just like drinking lots of Water and making your stomach (brain) feel full ( which is a lie cuz is just water) I tho I had an idea that maybe one shake for Breakfast and another one for dinner and than in between salad. Yet I feel like that is not gonna work. As I look at my list not even nuts or fruits are added (bummer)

I can have 5 Protein Shakes and broth, Jello, pudding

That's good ... mine was the same but I didn't get pudding.

Protein makes you feel full so be sure you drink the protein drinks... space them out. I added protein Water. It's still a clear liquid and the added protein was beneficial. I missed food but I wasn't hungry.

My sleeve was 7 days ago. I am still on liquids. Have not had any food in a long time. I still don't feel hungry. Do I want a piece of toast or a cracker? sure But I can't say I'm "hungry" for it.

You can do this. One day at a time.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
