What did you take to hospital?

Recommended Posts

I'm having RNY on 11/13. What are things I should take with me? My surgery is in another town and I will be alone so I just want to make sure I don't forget anything!

I've posted this before. It's based on a combined document that was created in the forums awhile back that I found. I don't think I'll bring everything on this list, but it gives me a good starting place. <<make sure you're logged in so you can open the attachment>>

I took all the usual things. I took 3 changes of nighties and undies. Didn't end up needing the nighties wore hospital gowns. I took shampoo/conditioner toothbrush toothpaste soap moisturising face wipes, moisturiser and lip balm. I found the face and lips got very dry. I also took my phone and charger. Little bit of cash which I didn't need because the hospital asks for $25 to cover all incidentals such as Wi-Fi, Pay TV newspaper etc. Other than the above the two other important things were non slip shoes or slippers and any current medications.

Chapstick, pony tail, glasses, phone charger, comfy stretchy pants to wear home post op. You won't be there long enough to really need much and I was too miserable to watch tv or read our anything.

Lip balm and Biotene spray were the most important things I took. I bought the Biotene the night before based on a recommendation here, and it was a lifesaver.

I used nothing I brought, except a blanket from home. I was very tired a lot of the time and when I was up I tried to walk. Watched a lot of hgtv

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
