Mini Gastric Bypass

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I had mgb on October 6, 2016 and I have lost a significant amount of weight. I have had some complications and its been a rough year. My highest weight was 249 pounds and I am currently 123 pounds and my height is 5'7 1/2. Subsequently,I started out with a lower BMI than most people getting weight loss surgery.

Has anyone had to have surgery to make their intestines longer to ascertain better absorption ? I am getting the surgery in two weeks and wanted to see if anyone else has had this experience.

Hi, first let me say congratulations on your weight loss and sorry your having absorption issues. I have not had my surgery yet but was curious about something and maybe you can help me answer this question. I am 5’6 with my CW at 228 and figured my excess weight loss is 75lbs which should take me to 153. What should be you GW if you do not mind me asking! Thanks

Hello
I have not had the surgery to lengthen my intestines for better absorption. I am currently 132 pounds and my bariatric doctor wants me at 154 pounds.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. Have you had an EGD endoscopy to see if you’re experiencing bile reflux, which is a complication risk of MGB and could result in unintended weight loss? Your weight is still in the normal BMI range. Do you not feel well, are your labs suboptimal, or is it just you don’t like how you look?

I had an MGB in April 2017 and am on the low side of the normal BMI range for my height. I’m not as concerned as you with my lower weight because my arthritis and debilitating joint pain is MUCH improved, I feel great (energy-wise), and my lab work is all normal. HOWEVER, over the last 6 months I have developed bile reflux and now suffer from stomach pain and nausea, as well as Barrett’s esophagus. Due to this, I will be revising to an RNY this summer to correct the bile reflux issue.

Sounds like RNY is the way to go hearing a much about reflux issues with MGB

FYI - I’m 5’8” and my weight range is 121-126. I do not plan on having my intestinal bypass lengthened. My revision surgeon is also not overly concerned with my weight. Aside from my reflux issues, my health is great in every other measure, and being lighter has most especially improved my arthritis pain. I had GI surgery in July 2018 to remove a LINX device that had migrated at the GE junction, repaired a hiatal hernia, and had a Nissen Fundiplication as there was a large fundus left. I am now awaiting results from an EGD endoscopy in Jan 2019 to see if I still have Barrett’s Esophagus and bile reflux, and determine if my gastric bypass loop (aka MGB) should be converted to an RNY.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
