Can you feel your band?

Recommended Posts

I am a little over a month post op and I have not had a fill. However, I swear that if I go to long without eating I can feel something. It is like a sticking sensation in the back of my throat and some chest discomfort. I have seen this sensation mentioned in relation to overeating, eating too fast, PB'ng or pre-pb'ing. But I have never see in mentioned when there is nothing in your stomach.

Sometimes burping helps relieve it, but it seems to come back afterwards. I do have a history of reflux and I am taking Prevacid, but this does not feel like reflux. I was just wondering if anyone else had this experience before I call my surgeon.

Thanks!

This is exactly the feeling I've been having and was also wondering whether or not to call my surgeon as the pressure in my chest started to get pretty intense, but I found that sipping some warm broth helps to aleviate it.

Thanks for commiserating! I honestly think that it is related to gas pressure under the band, pushing up on it. I don't feel it after I eat, only when it has been too long between meals - which happens frequently when I am at work. I guess I am going to have to invest in some Protein Bars to carry in my pocket.

I have that feeling and its like somethings stuck. I take it to mean that my band is there and making its presence known! I don't feel hunger but when I haven't eaten (drank, should I say), I feel the pressure get a little bit more intense. I'm able to get everything down that I need to so I'm not worried about it.

Yes, I had some strange feelings like that early on but your body does settle and you get used to it and it goes away.

Now however, real hunger, when you're stomach is growling, that's quite painful for me. I start to get cramps, really bad ones. I have to have emergency food in my bag because I have to eat right NOW or I'll be writhing in pain.

Thanks Jachut! I think these are my first experiences with real hunger (going past just simple "I think I am hungry" to "I am starving!") since I was banded. I bought some Protein bars to keep in my scrubs for times when a sit down meal is not going to be a possibility. We shall see if that helps.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
