September 29, 20178 yr Just be patient and go with the flow. I started losing mine 5 months post op. I am now almost 10 months and the hair loss has stopped. Keep getting your protein and biotin. Hopefully all will be good Sent from my SM-G920P using BariatricPal mobile app
September 29, 20178 yr i lost mine from 3 to 6 months then it stopped falling out, if it wouldve went on much longer I would be bald.Sent from my SM-N920V using BariatricPal mobile app
September 30, 20178 yr I was told it is protein intake. If u don't get the full amount of protein hair lose is one side effect. Being that ur hair is protein if it doesn't have the nutrients to keep it up it will fall out. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using BariatricPal mobile app
September 30, 20178 yr Is there anything I can do to stop my hair loss, I'm 4 months post op.I'm taking bari melts biotin chewable and keeping up with my protein. My hair is thinning around edges and I'm 4 weeks out.Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using BariatricPal mobile app
October 1, 20178 yr In my experience, nothing is gonna stop the hair loss. I started biotin 2 weeks pre-op and have taken it daily since. I've gotten in 60-90 grams of protein daily since post op week 2. Hair loss started gradually in week 10. Now at week 12 it's really coming out. Thankfully I had thick hair to start with. All I'm hoping is that the loss isn't noticeable to others. I guess we all have to ask ourselves: would we rather be overweight and unhealthy with no hair loss, or thinner and healthier with a bit less hair? I'll take the latter every time!
October 1, 20178 yr Did you have the sleeve ?? Im on week for and no hair loss so it sounds like around week 10??Sent from my SM-J700T using BariatricPal mobile app
October 1, 20178 yr Hair loss usually starts at about 3 months postop and lasts until 7-9 months postop. It'll start regrowing at about 12 months postop. It's the operation its self that causes the loss. Anyone that has major surgery or illness might lose hair in a similar fashion.
October 1, 20178 yr http://drnichter.com/hair-loss-after-surgery-explained/ There really isn't anything that we can do, except keep up with our nutrition so when it's time to regrow, it can have a healthy start.
October 1, 20178 yr Mine shed big time at month 5. I'm now at month 10. It stoped around month 7 and now I'm doing all sorts of homemade treatments to regrow. Vitamins on target but Water intake is a huge problem for me and I also think it didn't help my hair loss issues.
October 2, 20178 yr I had the sleeve. My hair loss started around 3-4 months and is still going strong at 9 months post op. Every time I show it is scary, my hair is so thin now.
October 2, 20178 yr This has me very worried, as I already have thin fine hair.....wah wah.... And going on a cruise 3.5 months after surgery....hope it waits until after that if it happens. It seems very individual as to when, how much, and how long.
October 3, 20178 yr Same story. Started losing at 3 months, now at 7 months slowing down. I got a layered bob to help look fuller and stopped blow drying, dying and ponytail s. I started doing a trim once a month to try to stop split ends because it’s dry as well. Looking a little better, hair dresser said new hair growth visible will take several months to grow in.
October 3, 20178 yr What my nutritionist told me was that the hair loss is actually the hair regrowth. Your body shuts down all non-essential processes during surgery and directly after, so by month 3-6 it's starting those back up and the new hairs push out the old ones. So it looks like hair loss, but it's really just a replacement period that happens to most people. The good news is that it will come back. The bad news is that you can't do much about it. I'm taking biotin for strength in what I've got and trying to keep up my protein amd water for healing. I cut my hair to a shorter, more layered look so it will be less noticeable. ?And I love the tinted dry shampoo for making what I've got look fuller. Luckily, the worst of mine should be in winter, so I'm just going to stock up on cute hats. Sent from my SM-G920P using BariatricPal mobile app
