Hello Everyone! Getting an RNY has been a great journey that I would do again in a heartbeat. Success whether measured in dress sizes or comorbidities has been success all the way around (Haha! English teacher punny). Unfortunately, Iron absorption is not keeping up with daily life and the Docs are concerned (BTW - this is the only concern as all of my comorbidities are out of the picture). Currently undergoing testing for poor iron absorption; it is consistently low. My concern at this point is going to a hematologist for iron therapies or blood transfusions and what the therapies will involve. Any experience with this?

I just had tons of bloodwork done in anticipation of revision and found out that I am severely anemic and my D's are low. B's were through the roof. So strange.

I went to a chewable Vitamin and prescription Iron and D. Follow up blood work in a couple of weeks to see if treatment is working. :)

Hello I'm seen a kidney Doctor, with the knowledge of my wls, he send me to the hospital for a Iron sucrose injection, brand name: Venofer, I was there for about two and half hour. Bring something to drink and read. no NPO. This injection can only be done at the hospital. Hope this help.
IV Therapy.

I have experience with this. I was referred to a hematologist and ended up getting an Iron infusion. Iron pills and supplements do nothing after a gastric bypass because the part of your digestive tract that absorbs iron, the duodenum and proximal small intestine, are completely bypassed.

I've ended up having 2 iron infusions, 1 each year. This will continue for the rest of my life. I do the day long infusion which is about 6 hours. I take things to read and watch on my phone. There are no side effects of any kind. The upside is that after about a month my energy level is greatly improved. The downside is the cost if you haven't met your deductible for the year. It costs me $1100 each time.

Anemia is unpleasant, good reminder to watch for it!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
