When did you start REALLY exercising? I've been walking and such (sometimes multiple times a day) but I just bought a rower and want to start! My doctor said 4-6 weeks was okay as I was healing well and I'm at this mark. However, I still feel a bit of pulling on the main incision after being on my feet for hours (I'm a college professor and on my feet all day).

Just looking to see when people started a more intense exercise routine. I want to start toning up!

BTW, had my surgery (sleeve) August 8th.

Thanks, everyone!

I started as soon as my doc gave me the green light, which is about the same time as you. Just start off slow and work your intensity up.

Thank you! I'm so terrified of getting a hernia. But I'm not doing any heavy lifting. Mostly cardio to start. I just signed up for a 5k!

I had surgery the same day as you! As I am now 6 weeks post-op, I am starting a weight lifting program today. Light weights only with lots of reps. I will do this 4 days per week, and add this to my 3X weekly walking program. I will not do any ab work for at least another 3-4 weeks, however. This is because I got a sharp pain in my main incision when doing a sit-up (trying to get up from the floor) last week. I don't think I am 100% healed in the stomach, so I am going to give it a bit more time.

I would advise you to take it slow, because a rowing machine tends to engage the abdominals as well. If you feel pulling or discomfort from standing for long periods of time, your body might be telling you it is not ready for this type of exercise as it is a lot more demanding than standing.

Anyway, good luck on your journey. I know you are going to be successful.

My surgery was August 23 and I plan on weighted workouts next week or the week after I pass the 6 week mark. I already have a hernia I need repaired so if it gets worse, oh well. I'll start slow. Probably at a normal gym before I restart my HIIT classes.

But I've lifted my 26ish lb dog since the night I came home after surgery. She's a brat.

I was sleeved in April 2015. I did nothing for the first 3 months.

I started a walk/jog routine at 3 months out. 2 years later I run 20+ miles a week, lift heavy weights 3 times weekly and include other cardio such as stationary bicycling and the stair mill.

I started running yesterday. It seems to work well for me for now to increase the exercise. I'll work on adding other things as time goes on.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
