RNY November 2017

Recommended Posts

That was one of my big concerns with my mother, and still is... lifting the 2 year old. I know she will have issues leaning down to give her a bath in the evenings. I'm hoping my sisters, or a niece, will stop by and help with baths. Otherwise, I'm hoping we can just get by!

Hi Everyone! This is my first post here, I finally got my surgery date, November 10th! Can't wait but starting to feel a little nervous as well. I start my 2 week liquid pre-op diet 3 weeks from today. I have to admit... I am eating the bad things that I will have to give up after surgery until I start the liquid diet! ^_^

Congrats on surgery date! I will be a whole 3 days before you. And I have found myself doing the same thing. I start my liver shrink diet on Oct 24th. It's not completely liquids, but my mind keeps telling me to get in all the good stuff before it goes bye bye!

New Surg Date! Well my surgery got moved up due to very high blood pressure and so now it's in LITERALLY 12 days! New surgery date is October 24th, 2017! Now for the hard part; I've been on the Pre-op liquid diet for 2 days now & 1st day-easyyyy peasyyy (prob because of newness of it all & im so hyper about getting this dang surgery already!) then... 2nd day-uhmmm..well not so excited- diarrheaaaaa cityyyy!!! Like massive blowouts & bad! Really prepare peeps- I think I'm prob drinking way more broth than most people so it's looks & smells like broth :/- sorry maybe TMI I know, (but not really when ya'll are going to need to know what can happen!) But hey, we need to get into ketosis to shrink that liver so I'de rather have more fluids than unnecessary Protein in. I'm already getting in almost 80 grams of protein & still hungry so broths keep me the fullest. Today is day 3 so we'll see how it goes..!

Just wanted to tell you I was approved for my revision! My oldest step daughter is going to take some personal days off to help me with my girls. I think everything is going to work out!

Surgery date is Nov. 7. I started with my wl practice in April 2017 and finally nearing the end. Happy & a little anxious. They told me in the beginning to lose approx 10 lbs by final clearance but have never mentioned a pre-op diet. Maybe when im a little closer to my date.

Hi all! So I had Lap Band surgery in 2014 and lost about 100 lbs. Only to start having chest pains that my doctor said were caused by my band. So the Fluid was drained, and back came all of the weight lost (except 10 lbs.). I asked for revision, and was denied by my insurance, but after writing a letter asking for an appeal, they have reversed that decision. Yay! Now back to life. Surgery for revision to gastric bypass is set for 11/07/2017. Excited scared!

What was the reason for the initial denial? I also had band, lost 50, had trouble, fluid taken out, gained 35. I have my last weigh in on 11/9. Now I'm concerned that they are going to say no!

My surgery was moved to tomorrow. The preop diet is where I'm at & I'm on is day 6. Doing great. I mean, yes-some hunger, but mostly Im ok.

I requested a gallbladder removal but the Dr said they don't routinely do that. I told him I had a fam history of gallstones & he did a abd ultrasound & found a huge 3.5cm x 2.8cm gallstone!!!! (2inches!) yikes! Anyway so they said I'm going in a week early. The good news is now I'm only on the preop liquid diet a week instead of 2! Yaay! I've lost 7 pounds so far, but only after I figured out to use LOW SODIUM BROTHS!! Nothing came off til then & it all came off suddenly thereafter. Anyway I guess I was holding onto Water weight but yet, the scale still dropped weight. Hey, weight lost is weight lost right!!! Anyway I'm sooo scared of going in tomorrow- I guess we all fear the worst but it's still going under deep anesthesia and risk of bleeding exists. 😳 😱

Oh wow!! Good that they went ahead and did the ultrasound. And lucky you, only having to do one week of the liquid diet! Wish I could be that lucky! I am counting down the days till my surgery. Wishing you the best tomorrow, hope it all goes smoothly, I'm sure it will. Keep us posted when you feel up to it! :)

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
