So I had gastric sleeve done 8/4. The day of surgery I weighed 309 lb. Prior to surgery on the pre-op diet I was 334 lb. Since August 22 I have stalled. I been stuck at 288/287 lb. I must admit that's when I started school and returned to work. In school we aren't allowed to eat during class because it's a lab science class-we just can't. Class is 3 hrs long. By the time I get out I'm starving. I usually go straight home make me one egg and feel better. Then I barely have enough time to go to work where it's only part time so I don't get breaks/lunches. I'm there for another 4-5 hrs without eating. I get home by 7/8 pm and I'm starving again. I will admit there's been a couple times where I've thrown up because I eat too fast or maybe too much i assume. I don't know. I'm not eating fast food. Usually I get Protein from egg, fish, or chicken 4oz at least. I wonder also if not taking Vitamins affect it...someone please help. I have my 6 week check up 9/20 and I don't see how I can loose 15 lb by then [emoji25]

Also my exercise consists of walking usually 1.5-2.5 miles a day.

It sounds as though you hit the normal three-week stall, so no worries there.

I'm a little confused--when you say you eat "4 ounces of Protein at least" do you mean at one time? That seems like a lot at once for as relatively early as you are in the process. Are you meeting the Water goals?

I would not stress over meeting an arbitrary weight loss goal; focus more on the big four goals (per my surgeon): water, protein, Vitamins, and exercise. Is there a reason you are not taking vitamins? They really are essential for WLS recipients--we can't get enough of what we need through our very limited diets at this point.

Hi, Jess! I was sleeved on August 17th, so I am very new in the whole process. My surgeon and his P.A. have told me that it's very important I eat every two hours. When I went back to my PT job, they gave me a note to that effect. My shifts since I've been back are usually 4 hours, so I'm not eligible for a break either, but my manager follows the doctor's note quite literally and I do have a meal break (10-15 minutes) every 2 hours; my note also specifies I need a bottle of Water at my workplace so I don't become dehydrated. Just an idea for you . . .

It sounds as though you hit the normal three-week stall, so no worries there.

Oh no. Not at one sitting like through the day. It's still hard sometimes to get stuff in. Water goal intake right now that I'm meeting is 34-51 oz. vitamins I guess and any pills i tend to forget to take. I always been bad at taking any type of pill. I'm starting to take a medicine pill case with me in my purse. It works the days I actually remember to take it with me. Thank you though for replying. I was starting to worry a little.

Oh great! Thanks. I go next week for check up so I will ask for that. I just feel I guess guilty that I ask a lot from my job. They already work with me for school and I was out an extra week of recovery due to being in the er and admitted after surgery. I will definitely ask the dr about the note though. Thank you!

FYI, my manager doesn't even ask me to clock out, which surprised me. I think she simply considers it the cost of doing business---no attitude or anything!

If it came down to it, I would bring a cheese stick or an ounce of nuts, something along those lines to work or school in my pocket. You can eat those things in just a couple minutes in the hall during a restroom break. (Once those foods are on your plan). A Protein bar.. etc.

Vitamins are really important. At the very least get some Flintstones or Centrum. They don't have to be bariatric-specific. Something is better than nothing. Your doc can help you figure out more specifics.

You may be sick of them now, but Protein Shakes are also an option. I am also in class/ labs and the Protein Shake has been a life saver bc they don't req refrigeration and you are not technically "eating" in class... Good luck to you!

The stall is normal so don't worry about that. It will pass.

As for the eating, my NUT also wanted me eating a small meal every 2 hours in the early days. I would get a note from your physician saying that you need to eat every 2 hours at this time due to a medical condition for work or get a note that allows you to keep a Protein Shake on you and drink that at work . As for school maybe excuse yourself to use the restroom and have a snack you can eat in your purse/bag/pocket outside of the classroom. Something quick with lots of Protein. I'm not sure where you are in your diet progression but nuts, beef Jerky, cheese and Protein Bars are all good options.

      On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
      Soooo I am coming to a realization
      of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

        Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

        Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

        I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

        I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

        BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

      Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
