Recommended Posts

I'm oct 2nd! I'm trying to buy all my supplies, what have y'all heard are best tasting Protein Shakes? I start my pre op diet Monday but mine is not all liquids.< br>

I'm ok with Premier. chocolate and Vanilla... not so much the caramel, strawberry etc. they also make organic versions if that's your thing.
Didn't like GENEPRO powder at all.

I also liked premier chocolate and vanilla. But I have also heard that some peoples tastes change after surgery. I bought a bunch of premier chocolate and vanilla and am keeping my fingers crossed:1330_v_tone1:

So what's everyone doing now and up to surgery day?

I'm slowly searching through my home for stuff that I need to pack for the hospital.

I've started to teach myself new habits, like eating better and slower. I'm also taking Vitamin D and Iron tablets as per the physician's order.

I've booked afterschool care for my son for the days after surgery. I usually pick him up from school. My husband will instead pick him up from afterschool care after work.

I've also decided I should maybe pick a dress of two sizes down to help motivate me when I get sleeved.

I am also working on habits breaking, avoiding sugar and bread. Tasting Protein Shakes and Protein Bars. Checking out bariatric friendly recipes and getting all the required tests for my surgery and the study I am in.

I have been taking the Vitamin D. I am looking for small bowls, a food scale and doing a lot (more) research for my first couple of weeks post-op. Lots of You Tube videos and Pinterest! I figure I will start doing taste testing once I get closer to my date next month. I am not a Protein Shake fan at all so I am not looking forward to that part!

How long did it take the doctors office to give you a surgery date after you were approved? I am still waiting on a date and was approved last Thursday!

Initially approached bariatric surgeon 17th July with a referral/recommendation from my family doctor (general practitioner).

He referred me to:

(a) the practice dietitian (in same building),

(b) his preferred anaesthetist (in another suburb),

(c) a list of exercise therapists (from which I chose one), and

(d) a psychologist (my choice) who could attest my mindset and suitability.

- - -

The bariatric surgeon arranged a follow-up meeting September 4th at which he announced a surgery date (gastric sleeve) of Thursday, October 12th. (22 days from today ... already Wed 20th Sept 10:20am here.)

He also asked me to come back for a hiatus hernia gastroscopy tomorrow, Thursday 21st September at 4:30pm.

- - -

So, seven weeks (49 days) exactly from meeting him to getting surgery dates after jumping through his legal and medical 'hoops' and processes.

And a further five and a half weeks (38 days) from second meeting to surgery.

The grand total, then, is twelve and a half weeks (87 days) ... or four days fewer than three months.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
