Pre-Surgery Food Meltdowns!!

Recommended Posts

My gastric sleeve surgery is scheduled for this coming Thursday. I have been panicking, and as a result, I have been eating one big meal per day since my two week liquid pre-op diet started! I have been doing liquids for the majority of the day, but end up caving by the time evening comes. Yesterday was a good day because I stuck to the liquids. However, I'm petrified now because it's so close to my surgery, and this evening was not a good one. Any words of encouragement or advice on what to do? Is there any way that i will still be ok by Thursday?

I am not sure what you mean by "big meal." My preop diet was 10 days with 2 shakes and one meal of veg and lean Protein.

I had a couple of slips and the last 3 days prior went full liquid. I lost 16 lbs in those two days and the liver was in good shape.

Are you loosing weight?

You need to start to follow your pre-op plan immediately. The main purpose of it is to reduce the size of your liver so the surgeon can move it aside to access your stomach. If you don't comply there is a chance the surgeon won't be able to complete your surgery or non-compliance can lead to increased risk of complications.

Try not to panic. Take a deep breath and know that your surgeon will be doing everything s/he can do to keep you safe. Trust in the process and commit to follow all instructions going forward from today. You can do this!

Thank you all for your words of support! I will be following liquid instructions up to my surgery on Thursday. I have lost a few pounds, but I need to lose more before surgery.

Im going through the same thing. My surgery is set for 9/1 and I have been doing good during the day at work but of course when I get home is when I cave. It hasn't been consistent but I have had some slip ups. Gonna refocus today and be on point from today until next week. I would hate to be told I have to reschedule for something I have full control over.

I'm totally sticking to the liquids from now until Thursday. You are so right! I would hate for my surgery to be denied. I went on a few bariatric Facebook pages last night which helped to motivate me just like this website. One lady said that she got her surgery done at one of the top hospitals in the country, and her doctor never put her on a pre-op liquid diet! Could this be true???

It can I've actually heard this a lot from different ppl. Another surgeon I was considering allows his patients to eat watever up until the day before bc he knows his patients wont be able to for a long time or ever again.

Doctors also have different pre op diet requirements. My surgeon allows meat, green veggies, eggs, and cheese. No carbs. I decided to do like a liquid/pureed food diet because I want to lose a few pounds before surgery since he made it very clear I cannot gain any weight before the surgery!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
