bschmidt25 Trust me. That will pass quicker than you'll realize. I can now drink normal again. The whole sipping Water also was lost on me pretty early on. I still struggle to get enough water, largely because I dont carry a bottle with me everywhere I go, which I probably should.
Right now my day usually consists food wise.
Breakfast - 2 eggs scrambled with a little salsa
11am snack - Protein Shake (45-55g of protein) that I nurse into the afternoon.
lunch - some deli meat and some cheese or a puree soup
Afternoon snack - pepporoni stick or a sf Jello (or two)
Supper - 1/2 canned chicken with light mayo and buffalo sauce
Night snack - handful of Whisps or nuts or sf pudding.< br> My crutch is the late night need to crunch. Thats a habit I'm working on breaking. Rice cakes and gum are my work around. But I think I might need to go cold turkey all together. The mental game is far harder than the physical.
I'm getting around 90g of Protein per day but want to up that eventually when I move into full solids in a week or two. My water intake is currently around 1.5-2 liters. (50-70 oz)

Someone recommended Quest cups, 22 grams of protein. Walmart has them

Same way here. Diet? What diet? My life isn't revolving around what I can or cannot have anymore or counting, macro and micro this or that. I eat when hungry, drink when thirsty. If I want a darn chip, I'll have a darn chip. I know my limits too. Much happier for me. I also don't crave those simple things much either given that I eat mostly veggies and grains. So, it's all good. [emoji4]

I have celiac disease, and grew up in family that also did. So don't chafe at restrictions. [emoji4]

Hey, so I think I might feel a little jealous too. Maybe my sleeve should have been cut a little smaller. I feel like I can eat too much and I am just 11 days out. When I say "eat" I mean "drink." The good thing is that I honestly don't feel hungry, it is the head hunger. So even if I don't feel hungry for the last two ounces of my shake - I still finish it. I only had once where I over did it too quickly and that was an issue. I am constantly thinking about what I can puree in a couple of days. I guess the real deal is that when I think of what I will puree for dinner is WAY WAY less than what I would have ate before surgery and hoping that I continue to make better/healthier options a long the way.

I dont miss Mountain Dew. I thought that would be hard but I have no desire for it.

You won't know what your true restriction is until you are eating solid food.

Yep, echoing what Jess said. I'm almost 3 months post and just now realizing what my new norm is.

I still can eat all the carb food, sweets and whatnot as well.... just in the smallest of small qualities... (which is awesome cause I can at least have a taste of the good life without that killing stomach aches or foaming or whatever others have)

The social interactions around food, going out and whatnot is whats super weird still... Friends opened a killer mexican resturant and had a soft opening last week. Every menu item on the table for us to try... and I only wish I had my old stomach cause it was all so amazing... But after 1 small taco and a bite of a churro I was done for the night...

This has been an informative, and at times funny, thread. Thanks everyone. I think I am a mind hungry person at heart and have always been a rule pusher. So after reading this I need to plan for how to handle some of that in myself when the time comes!

JohnnyCakes can no one take a joke. The whole "knife fight" thing was supposed to be funny. I call my incisions my stab wounds... come on now

I am reading this thread and laughed at the "knife fight" comment. I got the joke and it was funny. I have had people say and comment negatively (or it was perceived negatively). Its best just to blow it off and move on. Engaging just isn't worth it. How is it coming along? Did you increase your Protein? I can start working out this weekend and plan to bump my protein intake as well

Curiosity? I tested my limits as well after I was converted to MGB. Knowing I could eat this or that was liberating. That doesn't mean that I do all the time.

I'm not in the mood to live in fear of certain foods. I remember times when I did and it was horrible. I know though that many users on this board have a different view on this issue. In the end everyone has to do what works for the individual.

I have a friend, a THIN friend, and I asked her many years ago "How do you do it??" She said, "I deny myself nothing." She said that she never tells herself that she can't have anything, that everything is 'allowed' and that she is well aware of the price of admission for what she eats and how much. That, of course, is the mindset part, but she never allowed her weight to yo yo so didn't end up with a stretched out stomach. I didn't spend my life as a big girl (the opposite actually), but it was a life-long FIGHT every single step of the way, and any tiny thing would send me gaining. Big, small, big, small, big small.... health issues that stopped me dead in my tracks when I was a dance instructor and avid gym-goer. And... I ended up smack dab in the middle of my immediate family history----obese. But, I remember how I was scared of eating x, y, and z... which made the emotional part of eating a total mess, leaving me with wanting the 'taboo' stuff. Well, I guess I'm just saying... I totally agree with you, summerset.

There is a difference between "fear of", "power over", and "just don't care".

An Average Man walks by a table. Upon said table resides a bowl of M&Ms, free for the taking. The Man glances at the colorful confection, and moves on, hands and belly remaining empty.

1. What struggles (or lack thereof) does he face?

2. What is he thinking or feeling?

3. What would you want him to think and feel?

But what if "Average Man" was instead "the Heavyset Man"? How does that change your perception?

I address this is my videos. You basically need to eat like a normal man would eat and not totally deprive yourself of the "occasional" treat, otherwise youll go nuts. This is why those fad diets of eating no carbs or no fats, fail us. I too can eat any food of choice just much smaller quantities per sitting. I found that a 6 to 8 meal grazing style of eating works best for me and my body and caloric needs. I work out alot and retained all of my muscle and lost over 70lbs. I eat small meals more frequently. I personally dont like the feeling of eating a larger meal 3 times a day, and feels it slows me down.

Im sure to knock back 2 Protein Shakes a day included in this plan. I sneak the occasional junk food within reason, but keep it sensible and infrequent. You need to find what works for you, and being a 6'3' man I assume you have lots of muscle you will need to keep feeding, so a more frequent, smaller portion diet may work for you. Oh and dont be afraid of good carbs, dont deprive your body of good foods, eat them....Youll feel better and more satisfied.

I love that "she knows the price of admission" in regards to food and its effect on ones body/diet

Sherry Rice - Life is cruising by and I'm just trying to keep up. Health wise I'm 90lbs down in the 4ish months so far post and know I can do better with what I eat. I come to realize I can eat anything and everything with zero restrictions of feeling sick after. So discipline is the game plan. Some days are better than others. But I don't really stress too much. My wife whips my ass in shape if I stray too far.

My Protein sits around 90-120g daily. Depending if I get my regimented 2 shakes in or not. I eat lots of protein rich food though.

I am needing to get that gym membership now that we have 6 inches of snow on the ground and I hate walking and freezing in it...

My doctor told me that I am one of the lucky 10% who can eat anything they want without issues. I was very concerned that I would regret this surgery because I would never, for example, enjoy a piece of birthday cake, a cookie, etc. I know that's not the case, and I do, very occasionally, have something sweet. That works for me. It may not work for everyone. We all have to know our own triggers and adjust as needed. I, for example, know that I can't have soda. Even if my stomach would tolerate it, it's a slippery slope for me.

Don't be frustrated or jealous - consider yourself lucky. Know yourself and what figure out what works for you, and you'll be fine!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
