Can't stop spitting/ throwing up foam

Recommended Posts

I'm 30 yrs old (F) and I was sleeved 7/20/17. Pre surgery I was 334.6 surgery date I was 327.9 .... and I am Currently 293.4. It's been just over 3 weeks since surgery and it's been a rollercoaster

1. Went into ER 4 days post op for dehydration and abdominal cramping.

2. Had an abdominal infection not related to surgery.

3. I can only drink full flavor Gatorade or Powerade or I vomit violently.

4. My body is rejecting Protein Shakes of any kind.

5. I have zero confidence in my DR's diet and I haven't eaten more than 1 1/2 cup of anything since my surgery date.

6. I keep throwing up foam, even if I don't eat or drink anything it just doesn't stop coming. I went for a follow up and no one has a reason why. BTW there's no hearburn or burning sensation with the foam.

7. DEAR GOD WHY CANT I PEE??

8. AND POOP WHILE WE'RE ON TOPIC.

anybody out there going through something similar?

Foamies usually happen when something you ate doesn't agree. It's the body's way of "cleaning house". Hopefully something will click and it will solve itself.

In the meantime I'm trying to get a sense of how much trouble you're in. How many ounces a day of Fluid are you keeping down? What fluids have you tried? You say "eat", what do you mean?

How many times a day are you peeing? Have you pooped since surgery?

Hope u feel better soon. I was sleeved on 7/12/17 and I was readmitted once for dehydration but I can tolerate food. My problem is getting enough fluids. That being said I'm doing good. Wishing u a speedy recovery.

I'm about 8 months out now and have had foaming as well. It may start with a runny nose at times and is usually related to me eating too quickly or something not agreeing with my sleeve. If I don't stop eating, I'll usually vomit. But the good news is that it's happening much less often as time goes on. You also can have silent reflux, which is GERD/reflux without the obvious feeling of heartburn. Your MD may want to put you on something like Prevacid or Prilosec to see if that helps.

As for peeing, you're most likely not urinating because you're dehydrated. Dehydration can be very dangerous because it effects your electrolytes which regulate things like your heart, muscles, and blood pressure. It also puts strain on your kidneys. So try to sip, sip, sip all day and even keep Water beside the bed to try to get some in at night.

I've been perpetually constipated since my surgery, so take a stool softner and Fiber supplement daily or it's not pretty. Increased Protein and not being well-hydrated can cause Constipation, so it's no wonder that so many sleevers have issues with it. Once you get a bit further out from your surgery and can tolerate fiber, it will help.

You're still only a few weeks out and recovering from an infection on top of it, so you're body is under a lot of stress. Hopefully as you recover and more time passes, things will balance out for you. Hang in there - it does get easier!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
