Day five post op: trying to get in my fluids and my tummy is really rumbly ! Pain on my right side incision has really not gone away actually worse not the incision itself but the area around it . Like numbing has wore off around it .

I’m sorry you’re in pain. Are you taking any painkillers?
I can’t believe how hard it is to get in 64oz. of fluids! I’m not in too much pain just on the left side when I take deep breaths.

I have pain across the top of my stomach-just underneath my breasts. Sharp pains when I take deep breaths. My drain tube site wont stop leaking. I go through 4 doubled up sterile pads every 3-4 hours. My skin is so raw from the tape. It literally bleeds when I have to pull the tape off. I also split one of my sites. So that is another open wound. Honestly, its tiring. Day 6 and it seems im moving backwards. My follow up isnt until Friday. And, my surgeons do surgeries on Monday and Tuesday. So, I wait...

Well I am taking liquid Vicodin although I’m trying not to take more than I need I am lucky I guess I don’t have to have a drain. Incisions look good. They have Steri strips on them I’m not supposed to take them off , but I do keep bandaids on top of them . I’m just tired . I can’t sleep and irritable . I wear my binder they provided me almost 24/7 . It helps with the pain . My follow up isn’t until the 16th but bari. 500 class is on the 9th :) that’s when I get purreed food

I still can not sleep on my side , but I can sleep on my back without any issues... I am 10 days post op too and no pain at all and lots of energy... I started taking Protein Powder today , but honestly I felt great even with out it.
I can drink pretty much like before , and no issues at all. How fast can you guys drink 8 oz of liquid??

I am exactly the same way! I can drink 12 oz easily within 20 min. I feel FINE, great even! I went back on my Premiere Protein Shakes Saturday night. Again no problem at all. I have also been eating soft foods. Hummus (seriously like heaven), canned chicken breast with dill Pickle Juice and a tiny bit of mayo, soups..., again Im feeling great. I did experience my first "dumping syndrome" yesterday. OMG I FELT HORRID for about 20-30 min. Turns out it was due to me putting my hummus in broth. BAD IDEA! A friend gave me a tip that I should have no more than 1/2-3/4 of a Jello cup at each meal. No liquids 20 min before or after and none during eating. My friend had a great saying
*The difference between feeling full and "Oh ****" is just one bite.

Hey everyone! I had my 3 week post op check yesterday... my BMI changed from 45 on the day of surgery to 41 yesterday. I’ve lost 24 lbs. 10inches total... so like some from my waist and from my hips... those are really the only measurements I’m worried about at this time... I met with my NUT and she told me to start to eat that extra bite to start the process of stretching my pouch ... that seems so soon and I don’t feel ready to do that yet. She said I should be eating a cup of food around 3 months. I’m eating about 2oz. Per meal. I drink most of my Protein and she gave me the green light to keep doing that.

I do have an open wound still healing. It’s not causing any problems other than what one would expect from having to dress the wound every 8 hours and it gives me pain every so often and i want to itch it, but I refrain from that. If it weren’t for the open wound I’d feel pretty darn good... Also I’ve been waking up on my belly without pain and I’ve been getting good sleep... I’m looking into getting an individual membership to the community center to work out. I usually get a family one but no one comes with me and they don’t have a daycare option ....

How are you all? I am 3 weeks post op and I am doing pretty well, I have tried all types of foods, meat , chicken and pork and all those went in great, being pork the most heavy to eat.... also milk products are ok, the only thing that i have difficulty eating was egg.... so no big deal, I am 24 pounds lighter and full of energy ! The only change that I noticed is that sometimes after eating I feel sleepy.... how are you guys doing?

Really? I’m sooo jealous [emoji31]
I’m still on clear and milk liquids.
I’m not allowed soft cheese or purées for another 2 weeks I think

Our program is 2 weeks liquids...anything high Protein preferred, milk, cream Soups, Greek yogurt, high protein oatmeal made runny with milk, 1 week soft foods such as cottage cheese, poached or scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes, if you .ca mash with a fork it's good...then at 3 weeks start on real food 1 at a time and see how it feels

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
