I understand the whole concept of not combining eating and drinking at meal times and agree--it's super, duper important to feel satiety for as long as possible after eating a Protein forward meal. So do any of you still eat Soup? Like, you know, REAL soup: vegetable beef, Italian wedding soup, pho...the kind that is brothy with solids (prot/veg) floating in the broth having fun. I am a soup-nut/soup-evangelist and LOVE me some brothy Soups. Are there any solutions other than: take a steaming cup of STFU and pull up your big girl panties--cuz which is more important to you, having a successful tool long term and reaching goal, or eating the danged ol' soup? (BTW, not talking about creamy, pureed soups.)

the problem with Soups can be the calories. because Soup goes down easy and releases from the pouch to the intestines quickly, you don't fill up very much on them. yet all the calories count. not as big of a deal with broth-based soups, but obviously the ones made with cream can be very high-calorie.

when you start transitioning to solid foods, they really want you to eat SOLID FOODS for two reasons - it teaches your new stomach to digest different textures again, and real food stays in your stomach longer giving you the feeling of fullness or satiety for longer.

i see this clearly with my own limited experience. if i eat egg and spinach, i am very full for a long time. but i can eat a startling amount of soup, quickly, and be hungry again in an hour. so personally i am going to back off of soups until i hit my goal weight. then add them back in.

btw - this does not count drinking broth, which is my favorite thing evarrrr.

You know, I had the same question. Before the surgery, I ate the heck out of Pho. I often get really frustrated w/ Soups due to filling up so quickly (Three to four spoonfuls) , I've given up on them. Now, I will get a bowl of chili from Jason's Deli or Whole Foods, they're low in carbs, sugars, and are packed with Protein. I find the bowl with a touch of cheese, low fat sour cream, and onions can last for lunch and dinner, and may carry over into the next day. Other soups, blah...they won my frustration battle. lol

Actually, I'm almost two years out. For some reason, it can take a day and a half to eat a bowl of chili, but hey, I'm not the one to complain. Have you tasted the chili from Jason's Deli?

I ate wonton and vegetarian vegtable Soup, quite often at one month post op. They both have some substance though.

No, but I will. I just got sleeved on the 24th. Pretty happy. My energy levels are still a little low.

But I love chili. Meaty and Beany.

On rare occasions and mostly my own homemade, which usually ends up being very hearty with lean protein/non-starchy veggies and very little broth.

Make sure we're all talking about being in the same phase of our eating. Someone 3 weeks out on phase two is going to have different needs than someone years out on solids.

Just keep that in mind when giving suggestions.

I still eat the same way as when first sleeved (5 years ago) and on to solid food. Dense Protein, non-starchy veggies, no liquid a half hour before/after solid food, no Pasta, potatoes, rice, flour, sugar, bread, Cereal, etc......except for a rare occasion, and then not more than a couple bites. Rarely, fruit such as a few grapes or bites of watermelon. Cakes, Cookies or Desserts, 1-2 times a year. A Hershey's miniature, which I thoroughly enjoy with mindful eating and making it last with 6 teeny bites, once every few months.

The only thing that has changed is that my portions are bigger than in the beginning.

Basically, I follow the program according to the nutritionist.

        Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive).
