Question - eating and drinking vs liquidy food?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

probably a silly question, but one of the hardest things for me to do is to not eat and drink at the same time. It just feels so natural to sip a drink during meal times. Since I have had the Overstitch I absolutely do not eat and drink at the same time but I hate it and find it very difficult. Especially in social settings or at a restaurant with friends when I would normally have a wine course or matched wines with my meal.

Anyway my question is, I thought I'd order Soup at a restaurant the other day, no entree no dessert just a soup for mains. When the soup arrived it was obviously liquid, but there were pieces of fish / vegetables in the soup as one would expect. Is this the technically the same as eating and drinking at the same time? I was consuming a liquid and eating solids in the same dish.

Is this a problem? Or am I overthing things?

Thanks guys

john :-)

I guess technically you are.. but it's absolutely allowed with Soup.

The problem with eating and drinking together is twofold. The liquid allows the solids to slip through, emptying your stomach prematurely, and you may get overfull.

When I was about 8 weeks postop, I ate something that made me miserable for a couple hours... I think with heartburn. I figured enough was enough and drank a big glass of milk. Washed that stuff right through, and eased my suffering 100%.

The problem with doing this regularly is you won't digest the food appropriately and you'll end up hungry and malnourished.

I guess I was wondering the same thing. This is good to know.

Maybe eat the Protein and veg first? That is a really interesting question! I am looking forward to a nice Pho (without noodles) when cleared for solids.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
