2 weeks post-op exercises

Recommended Posts

You're doing great! Keep going! Try adding other exercises little by little. Do a sit up. If that doesn't feel good, you're not ready. If it feels okay, do two tomorrow, three the next day. Consider free weights & weight machines. If you can walk, try picking up the pace. There are so many options! Good luck!

Don't do situps 2 weeks postop. A hernia is the last thing you want! 6 weeks of just walking! In a couple months, you can go nuts in the gym.

Yes, you'll lose strength and muscle tone, but those things will come back quickly once you get back in the gym. No worries! Take this time to learn about your new tummy, and heal up. You just had major surgery!

You feel soft because your fat is breaking up. I used to think I had these massive muscles, but nope it was just solid fat. When I lost enough fat I could feel my muscles I knew the difference.

The first 6 weeks are for healing. Not exercising not losing weight. Your goal is to heal.

Walking is great exercise and will get you prepped to do more once you are healed.

The muscles in your abdomen have been cut. The last thing you want is a hernia.

I think what is happening is you are running on a huge adrenaline rush. When you don't eat enough, adrenaline kicks in to save the day. You are on top of the world. Once you start getting more calories in, the adrenaline goes down and you'll feel how you actually feel.

Even though you feel great and are super motivated.. this is where your mind has to tell your body to take it easy.

If you allow the adrenaline to win, you will be slower to heal, and you'll be worse off. Patience now will pay dividends later.

I think you could add squats and lunges but absolutely nothing with added weight or crunches. You are doing great with you walking. Think of how long it took to get on. Give it time to come off. Keep up the great work.

My doc said to start doing whatever I wanted but it seems everyone thinks I should take it slow. At what week did you all decide to do weights for toning? I'll def start my squats...

Listen to your doctor, he/she knows your body better than any of us. I'm 5 days post op and walking between 5-10k steps. Tried to do some resistance training on arms today, just band work, but I think I overdid it. Going to chill a bit and just focus on healing. Good luck! Sounds like you are doing great!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
