Some of you spoke about the pain after the surgery. I don't understand. Why didn't the doctors give appropriate pain killers. I had a cesarean after my daughter (21 years ago) and I did not have any discomfort because I had pain medications. Is there some reason why they can not give enough for the bariatric patient to be comfortable? Are some doctors/ hospitals more understanding of this than others?

There is no way to completely eliminate pain following a major surgery. It's a huge trauma to the body and the goal of post-surgery pain medication is to help bring pain down to tolerable levels.

Additionally, with the current opioid/addiction issues so many areas in the country are grappling with, there has been a move across the board to decrease the amount of narcotics being prescribed for everyone. 21 years ago, prescribers used a very different set of standards to decide what pain meds to give and in what doses.

I had my surgery in Mexico. I think they must have some regulations regarding narcotic pain meds, (or maybe they are more expensive?) because I think they gave me something the first night after many tears and discomfort. The next day I had to suck it up, they put me on ketorolac. I've had a few surgeries in the U.S., they usually have you pretty gorked for the first 24-48 hours, then send you home with a narcotic pain reliever. It was a bit of a surprise, but after day 2 the pain was really minimal.

I had surgery on MX with Dr. Illan. I had ZERO pain. The nurses were in every hour giving me something. After leaving the hospital, I never used a pain medicine, even though they gave me ketorolac.

I received pain medication through the iv after surgery I was drowsy most of the day and evening but was clear headed once that gas pain hit my body.

I'd equate it more to discomfort than pain. I wasn't given any IV pain meds post op, but had the option to take liquid codeine if I wanted to. I used it sparingly in the first week (not even once a day) and disposed of it at a pharmacy after that.

I was given adequate pain medicine, but still bending (to get out of bed/chair), coughing, sneezing, etc caused much pain. Not to mention gagging on the multivitamin!!

Hello, I had my surgery 9 days ago. I think it is correct to say that I wasn't in pain but more like the pain you feel in your side after running. It wasn't too bad, but it was there for about 2 days.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
