Also, it is an "enter at your own risk" kinda thing....you are not forced to go through and read it to get to other info. You can avoid this forum entirely when you don't want to get in the mud. That is what I love about it.
Although, some people don't understand that. There was a massive fight a few months ago because some idiots didn't understand that they were adults, and as such, weren't forced to go into a thread they didn't like. THey were trying to get all RnR and Talk Lounge threads removed from the New Posts section.

Yep, definitely agree with that. I've not had more than two or three sips of beer in my life, which was (and is, for that matter) definitely unusual in the university world. I don't mind a glass of sweet wine (although, not my favorite) or a sweet cocktail, but I don't generally drink. I think a lot of people think I'm either a Mormon or a recovering alcoholic, since I always turn down alcohol.

I have a policy to never turn down alcohol. You see, just tonight there was a bottle of GREAT Mexican wine that kept calling my name.

"BubbleButt... ohhhhhhhhhh BuuuuuuuuuubbleButt, come over here Bubble."

Well, I couldn't be rude.

I don't drink either, I just joke about it. Due to advanced liver disease (credited to my obesity, not alcohol), I must avoid liver damaging things as much as possible. My doc says some people can be 400 pounds for years and keep a perfect liver, but some of us at under 300 ruin our liver.

I remember that. Those were the same people that didn't feel they were capable of ignoring thread titles. Of course, they were the folks posting the most.

It most certainly is. I couldn't care less. I didn't gain 150 pounds living vicariously through someone else. What are the odds that SandyR will give me permission to post her pm's? This is what OH says that I need to post them on the board. Ok, I'm almost 5 months post op and I had two Cosmos. I'm not following the rules. When will the band police arrive at my house?
Post them here, instead, and then link to it. You won't be breaking any OH rules, I don't think.

Oh, of course. And the ringleaders were folks who don't even come to the board anymore, at least not that I've seen recently. What the hell do they care?

So I have to tell you about this cool wine I have. It's from Mexico, limited edition, only a small amount made, and YUMMY!

This is going to sound weird but it's true. It's a red wine with a hint of cocoa Beans and fresh vanilla. Amazingly, it's quite good.

The store didn't have much when I was there, next time I go back I'll see if they have more but I kinda doubt it. I was supposed to go this weekend but the trip was canceled at the last minute. That leaves me and my wine.

Come to speak of it, that reminds me of OH, too. People can't just look past the single thread they don't like, they have to complain to the mods that it's "taking up too much space and being posted too often." WTF? It's ONE freakin' thread. Pull up your big girl panties and ignore it.

It all depends. If it has to do with Sandy it's pulled. Can't have truth come out, that would be a horror.

Don't forget the bashing posts that are obviously about Wendell or Dee or newbies they think are Wendell or Dee but really aren't. Those are completely ignored by the mods.

And yes, it would be so horrible to have the truth about Sandy come out. After all, warning anyone on the board about her would be impossible and mean, since that would be invading her privacy and betraying her trust. And we can't do that.

Such a supportive and loving site full of good, quality information! HA!

That sounds interesting. I love all kinds of wine.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
