How did you ask for time off work?

Recommended Posts

I used my vacation time, and came back today. Had the surgery 7/3. Told my boss I had surgery but didn't indicate what type. I'm keeping this my business all the way. People are asking how I'm doing sympathetically, perhaps because I was almost 30lbs heavier since they saw me and I'm walking like a sloth lol. I guess this works in my favor!!

I used my vacation time for the 2 1/2 weeks off I took and didn't say anything about surgery when I requested it. I did say I was going to San Diego (I had surgery in Mexico) for a mommy trip before school got out but other than that no mention of surgery. My supervisor doesn't question why I am taking time off. My coworkers and supervisor still don't know I've had surgery and I'm not sure they've realized I've lost weight and if they have nobody has said anything to me so I haven't had to explain anything. I think it has to do a lot with my place of work and why nothing has been said yet and why nobody asks questions which I love.

I told my boss about the surgery when I started the pre-op program, given I would be in and out of for appointments over the next few months. Then I used regular PTO to take a week off post-op. I probably would have taken two, but my surgery was June 16 and I am already going to be out of the office from July 21-Aug 4 for vacation.

I just finished training for my new job and had my surgery 2 days later. During the 6 weeks of training, I mentioned to my manager that I was having surgery. I did not say what kind of surgery, because I am a secret sleever and I just don't tell people my business. When it got closer to the surgery date, she helped me schedule to where I had a week off (I work from home), using UPT. She said if I needed longer, I could go through hr and submit paperwork. When I came back this week, my manager has been kind enough to let me leave early and take additional days off to rest.
You do not have to tell them what surgery you are having. I believe it is illegal for them to make you tell them. So, if you want to say that you are just needing to have surgery, that is fine. And it is illegal for hr to tell others about your surgery, if you have to submit paperwork that may say something on it.
I did have a second manager ask me what I had surgery for. I told him that I did not feel comfortable saying, because I am a private person. He said no problem and that he understood.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
