I'm scheduled for gastric bypass August 21st, and I have to start my liquid diet July 15th to try and lose quite a bit before hand, I'm just trying to get my thoughts together as far as what shakes are best. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated :)

I used Muscle Milk Light (vanilla creme) and blend in a half a banana for taste. Your taste buds may change after surgery. So be prepared to experiment until you find something you can tolerate after surgery.

My opinion is there are 2 types of shakes commonly used. Unjury which is the better for you calorie and sugar-wise and Premier Protein which tastes better, but is higher in calories and sugar. If it were me I would choose the Unjury chocolate splendor or chicken broth. Also, Unjury now seems to have a 'Planted' version for vegans. I must admit though, that the Premier Protein caramel is one of the best tasting shakes out there.

There are three basic types of Protein shakes: whey(dairy), soy or plant based. I struggled a long time finding a protein I could handle post op. I can't handle dairy or soy very well anymore. So I use plant based protein powders. They seem to be gentler but are more limited to find and/or expensive. It's getting better as they come out with more and more of them.

I used Premier Protein. Just looking up Unjury, the powder has more sugar and less Protein. 1.5 scoops of Unjury would equal the same protein as Premier Protein with more sugar and only 10 fewer calories. You could do like I do and get both (or a similar Protein Powder to Unjury) and mix them. Over 50 gams of protein for about 300 calories. I like the banana creme shakes and vanilla whey protein powder. Makes the shake nice and thick too.

I also posted this reply on an older post. I'm on a Quest to find the Protein Shakes I'll like best during my pre and post op so I went to Sprouts and bought 15 different single packs to try. Most of them are plant based, some are whey based. This is what I found so far (I mix all of them with unsweetened almond milk):
Sprouts whey Protein strawberry: great flavor but it does have very small strawberry pieces.
Tera'sWhey bourbon vanilla: this one tasted just like vanilla ice cream so next time I'm making it into popsicles.
Garden of Life Sport plant based vanilla: YUK
Plant fusion vanilla: good flavor
Plant Fusion chocolate: ok, I like the texture of his brand as it's very smooth.
VegaOne: I tried the mixed berry, chocolate and coconut almond. The first two are 'protein and greens' so the shake is greenish in color and they have good taste, but I didn't really care for the slightly grainy feel it left in my throat. I did like their coconut almond one a lot, this one didn't have a small pack to try so I bought the big container at Target.

I still have 8 other ones to try and a friend just sent me a big package full of samples from AdvoCare that I'm going to check out.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
