Hi All,

I am set to have my surgery on June 16th. I wanted to ask you all about weight regain. Have you found it easy to put weight back on once your are out a year? Is it easy to overeat?

Thanks,

Kariann

Not unless you try honestly. If you choose to eat certain things it is easy to regain and over eat. If you eat how your program tells you, it is basically impossible.

After a year things changed. Surgeon put me with a life coach. My husband and I share a dinner when we eat out once a month. We went on the Beyond Diet, all organic and healthy and I gained 10 lbs. dieting just like I used to do. 4 years out and I have regained 30 lbs. I bought an Air Fryer. We eat vegetables for dinner. I eat an apple for one day. So sick of this.

My sister is back at weight watchers years after her RNY she's gained about 50-60 lbs. She never found a healthy way to eat that she could sustain. Dumping disappeared and she was able to go back to eating chocolate and basically whatever she wanted. Portions increased. It's so clear we have to make this a permanent change ourselves. It scares me that I won't. Maybe it's good to be scared. Idk.

I'm definitely vigilant because I've regained so many times in the past (before RNY). I go to weight watchers and count calories and plan to for the rest of my life. I will NOT be losing weight again after this go around!

I'm only 8 months out and I can already see how it can happen if you aren't committed to your plan. The sleeve restricts how much you can eat at one sitting, but there is nothing stopping you from having 10 sittings in one day, or having all of your meals be ice cream.

Its really important to use the first few months post-op to change your relationship with food and make new habits that you can fall back on down the road.

Good luck on June 6th!

We hardly have any restriction at all. I went back on Protein Shakes. I eat l meal a day. We have no bread or Pasta in our home in 4 years. No carbs. My husband lost 100 lbs and can eat anything. Our age is 70. I just bought a treadmill so hoping I can get moving since we can't get out and walk. Some nights we have steamed cabbage for dinner. Lots of fish. I will not give up!

Stick to the basics--lean Protein first, 60-100g per day. Then vegetables, then Fiber rich fruit. Then if there is room, a little whole grains. Measure and track everything, and get some exercise every day. Restricting down to vegetables will cause your body to stockpile fat whenever it gets a chance. Best of wishes for good health.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
