Losing Weight too fast?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I had surgery 5/17/17 and am about a week and a half out. I don't visit the doctor until Tuesday. I am wondering if you can lose weight too fast. I am trying to not weigh myself like a fanatic but I was 305lbs on surgery day, today I stepped on the scale and am 283lbs... is this too fast??? I'm scared that it's dangerous. I am having a hard time eating my Protein Shakes and making sure I am drinking enough Water but I've been walking about 2 miles everyday. Not a fast pace but there is a steep hill at the end that gets me breathing hard... honestly I have about 1/2 of my 8 oz. Protein Shake and maybe some SF Jello and egg drop Soup. Any tips for me or something I'm doing wrong?

I was sleeved on the 16th. I have lost about 16 pounds since surgery. I too am having problems with the Protein Shakes. Just tired of them. Didn't like the dissolvable Vitamins either. I have been taking a regular Multivitamin but have Bariatric vitamins coming Tuesday. I have walked 4 miles the past two days. Two miles in morning and afternoon.

Losing weight can be quite hard on the liver, so it's good to keep up to date on liver enzymes (inflammation).

At any rate, if you're getting the Water, Protein, and nutrition you're supposed to and dump weight quickly, it's fine. It's the unhealthy types of weight loss, i.e. starvation or malnutrition, that is the concern.

I think I am not eating enough yesterday o had 4 oz of Protein Shake, about 20 grams. Then I had some dairy free milk in the afternoon that's 8 g of Protein and then I had some egg drop Soup about 3oz around 7 pm and Water and Gatorade zero in between. Today I have had a package of oatmeal that I almost ate all of. Thoughts?

Fluids are the #1 priority. If you aren't getting in at least 50oz, don't be eating things like oatmeal. And don't walk more than a mile a day until you are getting at least close to goal for fluids and Protein.

We don't worry about what the scale is saying this early out. We worry about consumption. If you don't meet your goals, you'll end up sick.

This is very helpful information. Thank you guys, I think I'll cut back on somethings. I am going to set some timers, I think this might help encourage me to eat. I have no hunger at all and it makes it really hard to eat anything because I just don't want to. I bought bottles with the ounces listed on the side so I am going to use this to track my Water. On my discharge notes I noticed today it said to eat 5-7 small 1/2 cup meals a day. I have definitely not being doing this and I think as another poster mentioned I might be suffering from malnutrition and dehydration. I have been experiencing extreme thirst and extreme exhaustion and some lightheartedness when standing. It has been so difficult, I just do not want to eat... Its a weird feeling. I will try harder and keep you guys posted. I will reduce my walking to just a mile a day for now until I can get accustomed to this "diet". Thank you again for all the helping.

I set alarms on my phone to remind myself to eat. After I eat I set the timer for 30 minutes and after it goes off I start drinking water again. I still can't get the 64oz I'm suppose to but I got up to 50oz today.

64oz is hard for everyone at first, but 50 is very good. Should keep you from being dehydrated if you get that as a minimum.

If you are drinking your meals, and having trouble fitting fluids in, you can drink right up until meal time, and start drinking again soon after. It's when you are on solids that the wait is so important.

Why I recommended staying away from oatmeal is the more solid foods don't count as Fluid, whereas clear and full liquids do. Solids fill you up, taking up precious room that could be used for fluid.

Once you are meeting fluid and Protein goals through liquids, that's when bringing in solids works best (following the doctor's plan of course). Diet advancements can always go slower than the doctor's plan, just not faster.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
