I have surgery scheduled for May 31st and recently I have been having scarey panic attacks. I do have aniexty, but have controlled it for 2 years or so. I am wondering if anyone else who has aniexty and has had the surgery or is going to have surgery has had similar issues?

Yes yes!! Sadly, yes. I had my pre op today and was telling the NP how I'm not stressed about the life changes I'm scared about having the actually procedure or just the general going under, and it has definitely sparked my anxiety to be worst. Have you mentioned it to your doctor? May 31st how exciting!!!! Mine is June 8th

No, I haven't talked to my doctor because I don't see him until the surgery. I have been done with my appointments for a little bit because I was going on vacation, so I wanted to hold off. I am in Disney world now, but not having as much fun because of my aniexty sadly. I come once a year and never felt this badly. I don't feel like I am thinking about maybe subconsciously not sure. I hope it gets better

Surgery was 2.5 years ago for me & I was scared as hell. I didn't have panic attacks but I was convinced I was going to die on the operating table. Both my parents died as a result of surgeries so I was beyond scared. I talked with my surgical team about it & we dug into the reasons I was so scared. My father died nearly 30 years ago & my mom 15 years ago. We've come a long way since then with medical treatment. They were both undergoing life-saving open-chest surgeries. I was undergoing a life-improving laproscopic surgery. I'm younger than they were. I'm in better health than they were. Talking this over really helped me. I was still scared but able to get through it. Please talk about your fears with your surgical team & your loved ones. Good luck!

I think we all had it. My wife was crying the day I had my surgery so between that being my very first surgery and my wife crying I was stressed. It is natural. You will be fine. Try to keep a positive attitude. That is the best thing you can do.

Hey girl! I have slight anxiety issues and my surgery is the same day as yours! It's going to be ok. You signed up for this for the same reason I did, to get health and live a better life. You got this. It's normal to have pre-surgery jitters but it's going to be so worth it in the end.

P.S. I sent you another Pm.

I'm having mine October 5th, and today I had a bit of a breakdown. Going through YouTube about VSG, then next video automatically played. I looked at hubby and said nope, not doing it. Is a fear, but later I calmed down and thought logically and I know I need to do this.
We got this, and we will all be on that loser bench soon [emoji4]

Yep, my anxiety ramped up pretty hardcore in the weeks coming up to surgery. Seems logical to me because it is a serious operation and an irreversible life change basically!

I kept busy the night before surgery, and the morning of, I requested an ativan to get me through. walked into the OR as cheerful as walking into a damn theme park LOL.

I didn't get nervous til today because surgery is tomorrow but I also know that whatever will happen will happen regardless of the amount of time I waste worrying so, I let it go. My doctor is awesome, as I'm sure yours is too, so relax and get ready for a healthier you!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
