Hey! So, I don't even have an appointment yet ... contacted the clinic I want to use today, waiting to hear back. I'm a little bit older than you, 36...I wish I did this 10 years ago. But, insurance didn't cover it at that time and I wasn't able to afford it. Hoping to utilize this forum for support and guidance and I would love to keep up with you. It would be great to have a buddy to do this with.

O wow that's great recovery. Did you get the lapband in Cabo also? Why did you decide to switch. With research I've seen a lot of people switch from lap to sleeve.

10lbs by myself but I have never been over 40 BMI.

O that's awesome so you'll be close to goal after you have your surgery. How much more would you like to lose?

Hi I'm Faith, I'm 36. I went for my initial consultation last month. I am diabetic and was just diagnosed with sleep apnea. I also have high blood pressure but it's controlled. I'm pretty lost right now on what the next step is. The Dr. said I had to get a psych evaluation but I have not heard from them.

Hi Faith the same thing happened to me I had to call the psych a few times they all do things different but I had to take a MMPI test and then visit with her so it was two sessions.

I am 215 right now and 5'3/5'4 and want to be 145. Surgeon said I could get to 160 lb in 6 months so that is exciting.

what about you?

Hello, I'm new and 32 years old. I just got my referral this week and completed the seminar but the local bariatric center said it would take their scheduler two weeks to call me to schedule a consultation, then another month before they can fit me in. This feels like a very slow process.

I have sleep apnea and am over 40 BMI. I met with a nutritionist last year and my doctor prescribed weight loss medication last month (made me sick, so I can't take it) so I feel that I do have a documented history with her if needed. I just hope I wont be denied by the surgeon since I had a baby 6 months ago. I think I'll be approved by my insurance but I'm worried that this bariatric center will drag it out. There's no other option in my insurance network, that I know of. In the meantime, I'm changing my earing habits slowly.

What is everyone's timeline like from the first call to where you are now?

That part scares me, but it'll be worth it. Do you drink nothing but Protein Shakes? I'm guessing for that two weeks and your recovery two weeks no working out at all.

Congrats on the baby!! When I signed up it took a couple weeks to go to the mandatory class, and after that a month before I could get an appointment with the dr. Call your insurance. They'll give you more information. I think in general it's a slow process. My Dr said they're high accredited office and that's why they get a lot of clients. Insurances will deny you if they aren't accredited for the surgery.

Hi. I'm 28 and fairly new as well. I've done my group consult with dietitian and nutritionist, had my first and second appointments with psych and gotten all my lab work done. Have my second appointment with nut on monday. Completed 2nd appt with dietitian this week, but screwed up and didn't fast because it was scheduled for afternoon instead of morning. Have to do this thing where they test your resting metobolic rate. So much still left to do, as my surgeon requires fitness classes and support groups. Insurance requires 6 consecutive dietitian appointments, and at least 3 nutritionist appointments. I'm trying to wait until mid June to do the support groups and classes as they're all in the evening, and during school I can't take a weekday evening off, with 3 kids my school night evenings are packed and I can't get away. Hopefully I can get all my requirements done by September, and I'd like to try and schedule for mid October or early November. My BMI is on the lower end, at 37.1, but I just learned I am pre diabetic, so hopefully that'll help with insurance coverage. Anyway... Good luck everyone.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
