Most bariatric surgeons discourage getting pregnant right away. Most want you to wait 18 months. They want to get your body used to your RNY. You are going to have malabsorption issues and being pregnant requires more calories so the baby is getting proper nutrition.
I'm not big on skyla because a friend of mine had nothing but trouble with hers and she had it emergently removed. The depoprovera shot is a good alternative.
If you are having bad cramps and abnormal bleeding you could have endometriosis. BC helps that too. As I had it myself. I'm not a doctor by any means and you should talk to your obgyn for proper information and treatment.
Good luck and take care. Keep us posted on how you're doing.

Wow! I'm glad you are ok. I had bilateral pulmonary emboli a couple years back and it was scary. I wasn't on BC when it happened, but I see why you are deterred from using any. Take care!

Thanks for your kind words. I mainly wanted to say though, be wary of the shot! Have you thought about Mirena?

Omg thank you after my surgery my period started on it's on before I never got them so that's why my OBGYN suggested skyla however the pain was too much for me to bare and I didn't go through with it not sure if it was because of the medicine they gave me prior to soften my cervix because it had me up the night before nauseous/throwing up but I just feel like is birth control really needed? Only because I'm not sexual active due to having an hystercopy than following my bypass I just think bc is too right now. Thank you so much for the heads up about Skyla.

I have tried that but I had an LEEP PROCEDURE and it scarred my cervix so the pain was CRUCIAL. So I tried the skyla iud today same thing [emoji30] and I'm afraid to take bc pills because I know some have weight gain.

If you are not sexually active (I feel your pain!), you may want to wait on the BC pills. I was on BC for years and it can have a weight gain effect, but if you are having abnormal bleeding and pain you should ask your OB/GYN if it is worth the risk. I had a hysterectomy 8 years ago and all my endometriosis problems went away, but that is a drastic thing to have done. The last BC I was on was in a patch I had to change every week. It worked well for me and while on it I never got my period.
Again, I'm not a doctor, but have some insight from personal experiences.
Be sure to talk again with your doctor and maybe together you can come up with a solution. Good luck! Feel better!

I bled for a year on the shot too and it made me CRAZY.

I also have Mirena but it sounds like an IUD may not be a good option in this case. They are much easier to insert on women who have had children.

Really one of the reasons I gained 80 pounds...My doctor told me not to exercise because he was concerned it would dislodge the blood clots in my legs and cause a stroke, that combined with the cramping and the mood swings, it was a recipe for disaster....so I always try to keep my friends from getting the shot.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
