Interesting question after such a description. So you've had surgery (what type?) 9 months ago, lost roughly 155 pounds during that time(what was your low weight?), eat twice a day (do you exercise?) and then have a bag of chips every night for the past 4-5 months. Your question is "is that a bad habit". In your opinion, besides yourself, is there anyone out there who could give reasons why this is a good habit? Or at least reasons why it's not a bad habit?

Let me ask a bit more and please keep in mind these are genuine questions, I'm just trying to get inside your head/situation: was your low weight 319 or have you gained? Does the bag of chips make you feel good about yourself? Do you wake up in the morning proud? Would you eat that bag of chips in front of your surgeon or PCP or NUT?
Eating a few meals and then a bag of chips must be over a normal calorie, carb, fat limit. Even if you don't eat much at all during the two meals you do eat, having a bag of chips can't possibly be low in calories or healthy. It's not just "not healthy". It's actively being unhealthy. For what reasons?

I don't think it's a productive habit because chips have very little to offer in the way of nutrients, but are high in sodium, fat, and carbs. Are you eating them because you're actually hungry, or simply because they're enjoyable? Many people make the mistake of not eating enough during the day, and then feeling ravenous or deprived at night and overcompensating with less healthy choices. It would be much better to have three reasonable meals at routine times that are higher in Protein, lower in carbs, and include some vegetables. Snacks like almonds or cheese cubes are better snack options. Keeping track of your food with an app like MyFitnessPal can be helpful. If you really love chips, I'd consider having them just once a week instead of nightly.

If you want to eat chips at night buy the Quest Protein chips.

If you are more real food during the day, like dense protein you wouldn't be so hungry at night. I eat 4 to 6 times a day.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
