Hello Everyone,

Has anyone went from LapBand to Bypass? If so, why? What happened? Would you do it again?

I had the Lapband in 2012; weight was 263, dropped to 220. Now, at 270.

Thank you for sharing!

I am currently in the same spot you are. I have just decided to have my lapband revisied to gastric bypass. I had my lapband procedure in 2012. Pre WLS starting weight 298. 268 before surgery. 218 low. No idea of my current weight.

I'm not sure yet. I just attended the seminar. Will have to complete all the pre approval steps. I met my deductible already so I'm going to try and push for summer..

One of the individuals in my Bariatric Surgery Support Group went from a band to RNY gastric bypass. He was forced to because the band was wearing into his stomach and it was about to rupture. He was pleased with the results. Because of the scaring from the band, it meant that his stomach after bypass was a little smaller than most individuals that undergo the surgery so he was somewhat limited by meal volume more than most. It meant that he ate smaller meals but more of them.

James,

Thank you for this information. I am curious how much scarring is on my stomach...yuck.

Smaller meals, more often...I can handle that! Lol

Thank you!

Wondering how much scarring I may have. I have always struggled with the lap band. Fills would cause me not to eat for at least a week. During certain times of the day and certain weather I could barely get fluids down. Acid reflux and I was unable to eat the foods that were good for me.

Ugh. That must have been awful. I'm sorry you went through that...you will have better results with bypass.

Having my band to bypass surgery 9 months ago was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I had the lapband for years and was gaining weight. Got up to 426. Was 390 the morning of the revision and now I'm down to 258. The bypass is so much better for me than the band was. I don't have to worry about getting things stuck and having to throw up. It's a more natural feeling and I just feel full when I've had enough to eat, like a normal person.

Awesome. I've heard the same thing quite a few times.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
