Hi guys! Today I complete my first week after surgery. It's been a pretty smooth ride thanks to forums like theses and so much info out there. I'm just worried I can't tell if it's normal to not have gone to the bathroom for the entire week! I mean, I know my liquid diet has been broth, apple juice and Jello (yesterday started with Protein shakes) and I've read that Constipation is normal, but it says that it's for 3 or 4 days. Did anyone go through this?

Mine has been a lot longer. I have tried Miralax, bensfiber in my shakes, and even a suppository on Saturday. Saturday was my first poop in like 2 weeks! I hear poop problems are the worst, but when we start transitioning to food it gets better. I am doing benafiber still and if I don't poop by Wednesday another suppository ugh. I am hoping this changes as I get into the puree stage on Saturday.

Same here. My surgery was 04/05 and no poop yet. I guess I get some Benefiber. But this is sad, I was always so regular.

I'm 6.5 months post-op, and I still struggle with Constipation. If I haven't gone in 3 days, I take Milk of Magnesia, and it usually does the trick. I had a pretty bad episode with it last week, so I am going to touch base with my team to talk about it. I wish I could say that it gets better, but in my case, it has been pretty much the same since I came home from the hospital.

Good luck!

Thanks for your comments guys! Today I had my first post-op appointment with the Doctor and he said I could try with Milk of Magnesia like you suggested. Apparently Week 2 will do the trick too due to the Protein Shakes and thicker liquids.< br>

Only once so far. Surgery was 2 wks. today. I've always had and issue, IBS with Constipation, will wait and see.

I have been doing benafiber in my shakes daily and has helped. Still not the best poop, but if it feels like it isn't coming out and you are having trouble glycerine suppositories are like a miracle worker for me. Im on my 3rd week. Went for the first time Saturday and again tonight, so benafiber has to be helping a little. But like many say, it is like pebbles for me, not gigantic poops. I am on full liquids still and hear premiere Protein can also bind you, and is the type of shake I am on.

I'm sure we will get better. I don't feel like I need to yet so that's good.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one. My husband and I were literally just talking about this and whether or not I should call the doctor tomorrow.

Don't feel discouraged, it makes sense that with a Clear Liquids based diet it's impossible to discard anything from you body but pee. Well, today was the day! I finally pooped! It sounds silly but it was such an event for me, physically Ana mentally! But it was just like the doctor said on Monday: "Once you start with Protein Shakes and creamier meals in Week 2, you will go to the loo" ... and so it happened!

Pain meds are notorious for constipation as well. I can only imagine if you are on them post op, combined with a liquid diet that it would cause some trouble going. I hope you feel better soon!

The nurse from my doctor's office told me to take Milk of Magnesia and that has helped. My surgery was one week ago and I've had 3 BMs since then. Definitely not my norm, but then this is not the norm any more, is it?

Before surgery, I would have bowel movements a few times a day and they were usually loose...

I didn't have a movement for 5 days after surgery!! Doc said that's a bit longer than most but I was also on painkillers so that could have been a reason.

I'm 7 weeks out and now I find I don't even go every day. And when I do, they are like little rabbit pellets.

I will drink Smooth Move Tea every two to three days to just keep some balance.

Quite a change indeed!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
