Day 3 post op. Feeling pretty good. Had gas in my chest but now it's in my abdomen. Slightly uncomfortable but I will be okay.

How is everyone doing? Both, pre and post op'ers.

I'm 12 days post op and today is the first day I am starting to feel more like myself. The only issue I'm having is that I'm hungry -- a lot; not head hunger, but physical hunger. I'm going to contact the Drs. office on Monday and see what they tell me.

Glad to hear you are feeling better!!

Day 3 of pre-op diet! So far, so good. Haven't cheated, feeling more tired, having cravings but keep looking to the finish line for inspiration.

Good luck to all!!

I think my ins co is requiring the cardiologist & pulmonologist clearances. My PCP couldn't believe I needed them. Her nurse told me the same thing & they did one for another one of my surgeon's patients very recently and it wasn't needed. I have no problems in either area.

Great idea on using the hernia as a cover. I work in a big office and it has spread like wildfire that I will be out for 3 weeks. I've told my close co-workers (3) of them, but am now starting to regret it. One of them told me, it is your body and your choice who you tell. I don't like being the subject of the latest rumor mill.

I completely understand the struggle, I've been in it most of my life. The times I was able to get down in weight all seem like small little blimps. I'm looking forward to a second chance of having a healthy lifestyle.

I'm having mine done at mayo Clinic and they require everyone to see the pulmonologist and the cardiologist before they can have the surgery.

Glad all is going well! That is how I made it through the pre-op diet... keeping an eye on the finish line. It definitely got easier for me on day 4. Good luck!

Were you in pain for 12 days? Are you on full liquid still or purée? Glad you're feeling more like yourself but sorry you're hungry. That stinks.

My surgery is on May 17th. I am worried about the unknown. Am I going to be hungry all of the time after this surgery? I know with the sleeve they take the part of the stomach that drives your hunger. Does this help with not wanting to eat? I was told by someone that the first year is "Hell", then it gets easier. Is there a lot of pain after the surgery? I don't have any doubts that I want and need this surgery, it's just so many unknowns.

I have a couple friends who have had the sleeve and they are enjoying life to the fullest and have been for a few months! I wouldn't think the first year is hell unless you have complications. Maybe the first month though. You'll see here that everyone is so different. Some are hungry some have to force themselves to eat.
I'm going the 22 and understand that fear of the unknown. I guess we just have to dive in and deal with what comes. Good luck.

Cjqueen b1:
did you have an appointment with your surgeon yet??? Im 4 weeks out and doing great. How ever told you the first year is hell is wrong. With that said, for me its hard because im eating a limited amout and kinds of food. Sounds like to me ypu have not had any appointments with the doc, nutritionist nurse, etc yet. Dont listen to nay sayers. Everyone is different. Some people have a harder time than others, however Ive never hear the 1st yesr is hell. A year out you more than likely can eat most all foods but in a smaller quanity.

I'm on Day 3 post op. Mostly still sluggish/taking it easy at home. Very little pain and grateful that my caffeine headache has finally abated a bit. It's been hard to get in the required fluids/protein and the Protein Shakes I liked before surgery are much less appealing now. Thinking about food quite a bit and how life will change, but still believe I'm doing the right thing and that it'll be for the best. All the best with your surgery!

Yes on the pain for 11 days. Today was the first day with no pain, hallelujah! It wasn't as bad the last few days, but still there. I'm on pureed foods til Sunday, then I get to move on to regular food (but no red meat). Thanks - I hate that I'm hungry, too. I'm hoping there is a solution and not just one of those that fall into the small % who are still hungry after surgery.

I'm sorry it isn't getting better for you on the liquid diet.< br>

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
