It can be tricky transitioning back to food. You may need to eat more slowly, and with smaller bites than you anticipated. Just a little bit over the edge can send one of us into the ugly froth zone. Take your time, get the small bite as liquidy in your mouth as you can, and wait a while before the next one. Good luck :)

I would think refried Beans would cause major gas issues. (Which could be where the pain is coming from) But they are also high in carbohydrates, which would slow your weight loss. The plan I'm on doesn't even allow beans (except cooked green beans) until way after 6 months, if at all, until very close to goal weight. Good luck!

It happened to me once - eating bite of soft chicken. I ate it to fast and took to big of bites.
I find it hard to eat slow. I've been practicing since before my surgery like they recommended but it's just tough - very busy household lol

Chew chew chew and put your fork down in between bites. You will figure out when to take another bite. It was hard in the beginning for me, but now I am getting the hang of it. You will too!!

Like others have said- eat slow and chew a lot! Make a point to put your food/fork/spoon down between bites. If you eat at your desk, take a bite, send some e-mails, then take another bite. It gives your stomach time to process, and it will give you time to react to any negative signals from your stomach!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
