So, I'm about 10 weeks out and I'm having trouble getting in my Protein. I don't eat enough to get it in and i'm SICK of shakes... has anyone found it easier to eat Protein Bars? (I haven't tried any yet) but I'm considering it...

Have you tried unflavored Protein Powder? You can add it to broth or Jello and get your Protein that way. I was told to avoid protein bars because they usually have too many carbs in them. Best of luck!
@heatherable.... where can I find the Syntrax Nectar?

I'm going to try this again since it looks like half the words disappeared....
@BrittBritt89.... Have you tried unflavored Protein powder? You can mix it in broths and strained veggie Soups and low fat cream soups like cream of chicken Soup. From what I understand you can also mix it in your yogurt. The oikos triple zero yogurt is really good and has a lot of protein in it.

cod had 25 grams of Protein for a 4oz piece. I never ate cod before this and it's a nice white flakey fish with a mild taste. My doctor has it on the soft and mushy food stage, but it's obviously fine for any post liquid stage

I call my local fish market and they'll cook me a 4 oz piece for lunch or dinner while I'm working and use seasonings only and bake or steam it. I have had them pre-cut pieces for me too for home that I'll season up and then freeze in foil so I can put them right into the oven.

It might be a little too soon to transition to Protein bars. It wasn't until the 3rd or 4th month that my nutritionist recommended them. Your stomach may still need a little extra time. A Protein Bar is probably too dense at this point. I used Quest protein bars. These bars were good in that they had high protein, minimal sugar and also contained Fiber. They also came in a lot of different flavors. Some protein bars are almost similar to candy bars, so be careful. So check for protein content, sugar content and fiber content.

Protein bars are good when you are on the go and can't drag along a blender in order to mix a Protein Shake.

A Quest protein bar contains 220 calories and provides 21 grams of protein. A Muscle Milk Light protein shake [2 scoops of powder in a 16 ounce glass] contains 210 calories and provides 25 grams of protein. So they are comparable.

Go to the Facebook page. They have a number to call for a sample pack of 16 different flavors for 16.00 otherwise, Amazon has it along with factory direct.(lots of 40%off codes on Instagram pages) Also try health food stores because it's fairly popular. It's also lactose free[emoji3]

5 months out and I have never had a Protein problem. I pretty much mapped out a solution in the beginning

Cottage cheese 1/2c 11g protein

P3 - ham, turkey, cheddar - 14g

1/2c ground turkey in Manwich - 22g

3oz diced chicken breast - 19g

2oz Ol Farmers ham wrapped around a cheesestick - 16g

Turkey Chili 1/2 c -22g

Oikos Triple Zero Yogurt - 15g

Just to name a few. I haven't had a Protein Shake in months.

I agree with the unfavored Protein Powder!! I love GENEPRO!! It defintly has no taste. I add it to my Espresso everyday. It has 30grams of protein in one tablespoon. I consider this a WIN WIN thing. I would drink my coffee any way so its great for me. The only thing is I just wish I would have found it 3 years ago. Give it a try. It cost some but it last forever.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
