Yes, totally normal. We all heal differently and it takes time for the swelling to go down. I really struggled with the little Protein Drinks they gave me during my hospital stay. I actually wasn't allowed to have a glass of water...only ice chips to suck on. After a few days it got easier and easier to drink. Just takes some time.

You are just beginning the healing process, so you'll probably experience those sensations for a little while. It will get better and better with each passing day and week.

Good luck!

Today is day 3 for me. I'm definitely building strength as the day does on -- I've managed to get down 10 ounces of Protein Shake. I can tell this is going to become a full time job (getting in my protein) for the next few weeks.

Thinking of all my fellow sleevers today -- thank you all for your support, insights and friendship.

I am 3 days post op and I'm only allowed broth, Jello I start my Protein Shakes on Friday. Thankfully I don't feel any pain or discomfort when I drink. The one problem I am having is this DISGUSTING store bought broth. I've got to find something else ASAP. I also have a little pain in my left shoulder

Make some Soups and flavor it with bouillon squares. Im 7 days post op and the shoulder pain was very strong right after surgery. It was actually in my right chest but extended into my right shoulder now. But it getting better...not as bad anymore.

Drinking is a bit difficult first 3 days, sip sip sip, and walk as much as you can, every day gets better, you will feel normal by the 5th day... dont be afraid to take or ask for pain medication if needed. Also, get gas-x strips to relieve gas pain, best of luck with your recovery.. Im only 11 days post op, feel like new.... small discomforts in incisions, but normal

Yep, it's normal! Just small sips, all the time. And you're right about the gas...walk it off. You'll start feeling better about 1 week out and by a month, you'll feel almost as good as new. Congratulations on your surgery, the next part is amazing as the weight drops off and you start feeling better :)

The same here. I'm 3 days post op and I feel better by the day. Question? Is it normal to feel like someone is choking the upper part of your stomach and if so how long did it last. I can deal with the soreness the discomfort is the worst [emoji32][emoji29][emoji27][emoji32]

Do you feel that choking sensation after you drink water/protein? I must have had some terrible swelling the first few days because everything felt like it gave me heartburn and would sit at the top of my stomach. It felt like the entrance to my stomach was swollen shut and didn't want to let anything through and caused a lot of discomfort. The good news is that yes, it will pass, but it just sucks while you're going through it. I tried to keep my sips small and evenly paced out as best as I could to help alleviate the discomfort.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
