Salads can be full of Protein though, no? Less lettuce more meats, eggs, and things like that? At least this is what I plan to do when I am able to eat salads again.

I think you'll change your mind once you find out how little your stomach holds. If you're only eating 6 ounces, why not just eat meat and eggs? Major roughage like chopped lettuce takes up all your stomach capacity in a few bites.

As obese people "trying to eat right", we loved salads because people told us they were healthy and they filled us up.

Post vsg, healthy means something different and getting full is no longer an issue.

A month ago, I went to Rubios and ordered a chopped chicken salad with salsa dressing. Tastes great and low in calories. Lotsa chopped romaine.

I was able to eat 8 bites - the salad bowl still looked full after I finished eating!IMG_6110.JPG

Wow yeah I might change my mind, I'm just so tired of eating meat though, so I want to see how salads do when I can eat them, and it gives me more variety.

I have migrated to different meat and vegetable combinations. I think a hot meal is emotionally more filling, so I've created a bunch of dishes that are dietetically more like hot salads without lettuce.

Kung Poa - I found this Panda Express Kung Poa sauce that's only about 25 calories per tablespoon. If you cut it with soy sauce and rice wine vinegar, you can create a very tasty Chinese dish. I stir fry celery, carrots, and peppers. Add some peanuts and beef, chicken, or shrimp and I have a great 250 calorie, Protein rich dinner.

Broccoli "Pasta" - Create Classic protein oriented Pasta dishes using broccoli instead of pasta. Chicken with garlic, capers, tomatoes in evoo tossed with a little Parmesan. Again, a great protein rich 250 hot dinner.

Chicken Sausage, Pepper, and Onions - Grill them like a street sub, but leave out the roll. Melt a little provolone on top and voila.

I still eat salads, but only as a garnish with my hot meal...

Try and break the association of salad with lettuce. If you are going to enjoy salads, at least make them nutritionally worthwhile. I guarantee once you get used to dark hearty leafy salads you will wonder why anyone eats lettuce. It is so bland and banal to me that I spat it out last time I was given a salad by my mother in law.

As it is now, I eat salad at least 3 times a week. Helps keep me regular and I still very much enjoy eating them. I buy a couple bags of Sweet Kale salad kit from costco. Just go light on the cranberries and use your own dressing.

Oh yeah I don't like lettuce never have, but like the dark greens, so I guess that is a good thing, and I found some recipes to make my own dressing, good to know it keeps you regular though definitely need help with that.

Not saying anything about stomach space or Protein but iceberg lettuce has little nutrition. Romaine lettuce is a good salad lettuce and has a lot more nutrients. Of course Kale and spinach is better, but for salad, I like Romaine.....all of course when your allowed to eat raw veggies obviously.

One of my favorite food reviewers calls Iceberg Lettuce "crunchy water." :D

I had my first proper salad since surgery this weekend, a lovely Caesar with light dressing, homemade croutons, and romaine lettuce. It went down fine and digested easily.

How far along are you? I'm 7 weeks and really want to try romaine or arugula.

Ohh that Kung Pop sounds good. Saving that one for when I'm off liquids (6 days post op)

Yeah. I want it but not sure I'm ready to actually try it yet. Still can only get in 2-3 ounces per meal. Thanks!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
