How'd THIS happen...my fickle band?

Recommended Posts

The last 4 weeks; I've had AMAZING restriction; very good place to be.

So today for lunch, I had one hot dog. Not bad. Then ate about 3/4 cup of mac/cheese w/cauliflower in it.

GO FIGURE! That's the most I've eaten in a month!

Wow band...you drive me crazy sometimes!

Sherilynn......I see you have 10.2 CC's in your band....may I ask what size band you have?! I have a 10 CC band and I know they'll hold a little more than the actual 10 CC's but that's a lot! I have 4.6 in mine right now and can't eat much at all. How is your weight loss going?

As for food intake....my guess is you could hold that much because of the kind of food you ate. A hot dog (and I'm assuming you really meant a weiner, not an actually hot dog with a bun, etc) is high in fat, and mac & cheese is nothing but mushy carbohydrates - they pulverize easily and go on through your pouch quickly making room for more food. If you eat a good dense Protein (lean meat, cheese), your pouch will fill up and stay filled up for a longer period of time....it doesn't digest and go on through for quite a while. That's why we are instructed to eat Protein first, then low carb vegetables next and to eat very few if any carbs like macaroni which have little nutritional value and also high calorie count.

Hi Gayle,

I was eating 'soft foods', Pasta, mac & cheese, because days earlier I had to bad stuck episodes, and I must have been very swollen inside, or something, because I was hardly able to get anything down at all. So I was doing the whole mushies thing. Figured SOMETHING was better going in, than nothing at all. I suppose I was a little afraid to go back to 'solid' meat/chicken, etc. for fear of that STUCK. Because no matter how much I chew - sometimes it can't be avoided. And boy - does that suck!

I did see, however - how much Pasta goes in EASY!!!! Months later, this is my first time doing the 'carbs' thing - and man its simple. But the carbs make me feel horrible, tired, etc. Plus, being diabetic - I normally steer clear completely.

Thank you!!!!!

It's nice to see someone else say the same thing about carbs. If I eat them I feel slow, I feel like a big fat slug on my couch for the rest of the day, I just don't have any energy. I really don't eat white carbs much at all anymore. Oh... then the next day I crave them. Even though I know I'll feel like crap I still crave them.

I like the description of "Non Food". Realizing that filling my pouch with something that hold no nutritional value isn't appealing any longer. I want to get my Protein and fresh veggies - something I know my body needs.

So true about the fickle band. It kills me when people say, Can you eat this? Hell, how do I know on that day, at that time, in that situation??? It amazes me how there is no rhyme or reason to what I can eat on any given day. I just keep trying! LOL!

HOW THE HELL SHOULD I KNOW!!!! lolololol ROFLMAO

I CAN SO RELATE TO THIS!

:faint::clap2::faint::clap2:

Exactly. For instance; I started this thread. My restriction was 'gone' again. TODAY - I was DONE/FULL on two bites of salad.

YIKES.

Mine does the same thing. Last week I had 1/2 of a Togos sandwich then the next day I could only get down 4 bites of soft fish. Go figure!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
