Why do I need IVC filter before bag surgery

I am getting my sleeve surgery this coming Monday, February 27, 2017 my surgeon ordered me to get the IVC filter inserted tomorrow Friday the 24th and I am a little concerned because I found out that I should have had our option of getting a blood thinner if possible could someone please tell me if they ever received The IVC filter before bag surgery

I was told when I first saw the surgeon that I would need one because of my excess weight and risk of blood clots due to my sedentary lifestyle. Also if you have a history or an immediate family history your doctor may request that you have one. At the end of my trial period though...I had lost over 100 lbs and my BMI and activity level was better so my doctor decided I didn't need one. I think blood thinners would be very unsafe before surgery..But I'm not a doctor. I do know that after surgery they came in and gave me a heparin shot ..If anything you're unsure of...Ask your surgeon why he chose the IvC. I'm sure he has a good reason. good luck on your journey :)
