Awaiting sleep apnea results [emoji51]

Recommended Posts

Hey anyone else awaiting their sleep apnea results? Is anyone else nervous from reading about other people's posts on this topic?

I don't know why I'm so nervous today?...maybe because I called the office to see if they received the referral for my 2nd part of test that I have to go back & do (the cpap part) & the representative said "no the only thing we have are you sleep apnea results from Friday" ?? that they will call me once they have the referral.

I'm glad they are in and that my dr is reviewing them but I would've been better not knowing that they have them because now all my mind is focused on the phone call......

I, however will still continue to pray & keep the faith. I'm always spreading encouragement to others & being positive; but this post is just me expressing my human/natural side of worry but I am still positive & hopeful; it's important for me to share my real emotions & thoughts to you all...but nevertheless we shall see?

Prayers please & thank you? (God knows I need this)

I'm currently annoyed with the process due to my sleep study results. I was given a home sleep study machine, which was about the least scientific testing device I've ever seen. I used it for two nights, quite unsuccessfully. I'm claustrophobic, and kept ripping the cannulas out of my nose, and got very little sleep because of it. And they're using those results to make me get a cpap machine, which I 100% know I won't be able to use. Not to mention I'm $1000 bucks from my deductible so I'm sure I'll pay full price for it to sit in my bedroom. This has me so frustrated, I'm about ready to throw in the towel and live the rest of my life miserable. :( My dad had sleep apnea, I've seen it in person, and I know I don't suffer from it. Plus, I'm a stomach sleeper, and have read many stomach sleepers have zero luck with cpap devices. Sorry, rant over.

I recently got my bipap machine. I wasn't able to wear cpap bc I felt like I couldn't breathe out against the air. I can say that I have to wait to put the mask on until I'm very relaxed. If I wake up and try to talk to my husband or anything. I feel like my breathing is too fast and need to take it off for a few minutes. Hoping it goes away after I lose weight. I also have a high deductible. I had to pay $220 up front them they said $115 a mos rental fee for 3 mos. Then the insurance will pay off they see I'm using it at least 4hrs a nt. My favorite part is spending the first 5 hrs of my day with a red mark on the bridge of my nose lol

I had my sleep apnea results the same morning after the study. It was just waiting for my machine. I love it to death and it's improved my sleeping habits by 100% wake up without any headaches and always feeling refreshed

Talk to whoever provider the machine and let them know what's up. Some respiratory places don't tell you shizz sometime and always rush you out. Make a complain and tell those buttheads that you need mask that allows you to sleep on your tummy. Because they might not have but can refer you to someone that does

I'm scheduled for my sleep study in April (first available appointment) and they are doing a split study where once they get enough data they wake me up and try the machine study part. So hopefully I get it all knocked out in one night.

Mine wasn't even in a sleep lab, it was home testing equipment, and it was sh!tty equipment at that!! Super annoyed that they use such an unreliable method to make that kind of diagnosis when I don't have any symptoms.

that does sound hooky pooky..will your insurance even accept the home study test? I have heard that some won't.

I also had to do the home test, and was told that most insurance companies won't pay for the one in the lab right out of the gate. When the home test came back negative, THEN insurance agreed to the lab (which also was negative).

I haven't received anything from insurance yet. To be honest, I feel like a cpap or bipap will be a giant waste of money, if they're going to make me get it. I have no symptoms, wake up refreshed and no daytime drowsiness. Just makes no sense to me. I wasn't even provided my results, just a "yes, you have it".

That was my experience. Had to do the at-home study before insurance would pay for the study in the lab.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
