Wow. All the info I got today. I got a spirometer, was shown how to inject myself the blood clot medicine, what I need to do day of surgery, what to expect after surgery. Was given 4 medicine cups to measure what i eat and drink. So much info... I got a headache. But I'm excited.

The post-surgery anti-blood clot medication is often Heparin, which you have to give yourself as a shot in the stomach for a while after surgery.

Does everyone have to do this ?

Some Drs give it to you just in hospital. My cousin didn't have to do it. So I guess it depends on the Dr.

Patients that are at risk of developing blood clots or have had them prior do have to stay on them a little longer. I had a previous clot and was put on Lovenox injections for 2 weeks after surgery. The injections bruise badly and can become sore so I stayed as far away from my incisions as possible. I think most people only get the shots while in the hospital.
