Has anyone else done this and what did you do to get yourself under control again?

My surgery is booked for late March and at present I am going through the "I am going to eat what I want because I won't be able to later". I hate myself for doing it and it really goes against my grain. Perhaps it is a subconscious response to the fact that I know I will need to be so disciplined in the future and it will be a long time before I can eat those things again. Look forward to your comments.

Im going to say something alot of the judgemental folk here will probably be mad at me for saying. Go eat what ever the hell u want n desire n get it out of ur system now b4 surgery n b4 ur liver diet. I did, i told my doc n his response was at least i was honest n not to binge, just have small portions of my faves n get it out of my system b4 the 3 week diet pre surgery. So, Decent portions, dont go crazy n have a thanksgiving size plate. Every1 heals differently and after surgery, its a lottery, there may b some foods u may no longer tolerate. Also it will be quite some time b4 u can have n enjoy that "taco", for instance. Yes im new to VSG, 5 weeks out n 30 pds down, get my Protein n Water in, back 2 work n just started light workout for those that will ask n say im to new to know anything. However, everyday im pist i didnt have those damn tacos b4 surgery. They haunt me. So in order not to fail, the taco n i have a 5 de mayo date :-). I looooove Pasta, i had it b4 surgery n got it out of my system, havent even thought about it once in 5 weeks. Get your last supper on, enjoy it, say farewell to it, maybe you'll meet again someday in the future bec once ur post op its serious business. U may stumble but u wont fall flat on ur face bec you'll know it was a long journey to get to this point n u don't want to ruin ur final outcome. Plus ur stomach will kick u in the ass if u try to put something in it its not ready for. Good luck. Hope u appreciate my honesty and that it all goes well for you. See u on the losers bench soon.

Hi everyone. I am kinda going through this right now. My surgery is scheduled for March 6th. My Dr is only expecting 2 week pre-op diet, so THAT will start on the 20th ... I had my very last coke last night at the movies with my husband. I'm happy to say, I didn't even finish it. Drank a little less than half.

I'm just so ready to get this done. I'm nervous and Excited and even a little scared. Hell, I looked up statistics on dying from this the other day, just because... YES, I am weird.

My doc wouldn't allow it. You had to maintain a steady loss leading up to surgery. If he saw you gaining at the end, which meant binge eating, he would cancel the surgery. I think most everyone goes through this to an extent. The problem is food is just like a drug. Eat something terrible, but then feel that wasn't the right "fix" you were looking for and move onto eating something equally as bad. For me I wish to hell I would have had a last meal at Buffalo Wild Wings and gotten my wing fix taken care of. Problem is I would have gotten that fix and I would just be craving something else.

Personally I don't think there's anything wrong with having a few cheat meals here and there as long as it doesn't lead to weight gain. I had a good send off weekend prior to my 2 week pre-op diet but it wasn't anything insane. I was really careful in what I ate a few days before and after to offset any potential gain.

I suppose you need to look at it as getting things under control at some point. We're all different and everyone handles addictions differently. The 2 week diet is not a walk in the park so bear in mind that the more you binge the tougher those two weeks are going to be.

I did a similar thing before surgery. I didn't binge really but I had a list of my favorite places to eat and had a meal at these places. Some healthy, some not so healthy. Don't go to crazy otherwise your body will really hate you when you go through the pre op liquid diet phase, but enjoy some of your favorite meals that you know you won't be able to enjoy for a while. I see nothing wrong with that.

Very helpful ladies as I'm going through the same thing surgery Date march 27 I'm nervous and happy at the same time [emoji23][emoji23] and eating seems to be all that's on my mind right now from restaurant to restaurant eating whatever cooking all my all of my unhealthy favorite meals I fill its not right but I still do I guess its because I know I'm not going to be able to have these things for a long while because I know I'll be dedicated to my WL plan and I know I wouldn't dare mess up putting my life at Risk

Good Luck [emoji12]

I thought about doing this but my surgeon flat out stated that of I was even 1pound above my goal weight the day of surgery, he will cancel it. I'm not taking any chances. My only suggestion would be to be smart about. Keep the treat to one meal, like if you want Wild Wings have it for lunch but keep the rest of your meals healthy. Do that for every treat until you get it out of your system.

I don't think it's worth it, honestly. I totally remember the fear of the unknown with what would happen with food, but the preoperative diet is no joke, and I was weighed in CONSTANTLY leading up to my surgery, and believe me, they make note of gains -- especially when you are supposed to be committed to a new lifestyle and losing!

food, I'm happy to report, doesn't have anywhere NEAR the same interest for me almost 5 months out. I know it's hard to believe pre-op, but it's not that compulsion like before. It's a relief.

At most, have an appetizer of your favorites, not a meal. And don't freak out too much -- I can eat everything I could before surgery, just smaller portions. My tastes HAVE changed a lot, too, and now I don't want 90% of the former crap.

I think it's a bad idea just from a psychological PoV. It's like saying to yourself "I'm never going to be happy again, so I better get all the happy I can right now!"

Realistically, though, you'll be happier post surgery. And, even without eating all that crap, you'll feel satisfied and fine. Maybe now and then you'll eat one small piece of chocolate -- and that'll be ENOUGH, you won't need to go through an entire box of oreos anymore. I think it's better to start preparing your mind for that, instead of focusing on devouring what you think you can't have later.

I did it subconsciously, but tried to keep it in check. Once the pre-op diet starts, you'll kick it pretty fast. I had a last meal, and then did well with the liver shrinking diet before surgery.

Just remind yourself that you'll be able to eat again. Binging isn't the way to go, but a lot of us do it. Just keep yourself in check, and try to do small portions of your favorites.

Thanks to you all. It is so helpful to realize that I am not the only one going through this. I am thankful that I am not eating between meals and only eating what I love at meal times. I am lucky that sweets are not my failing as such. I suppose I have been struggling with food and trying to be a good Weight Watcher for so many years. All those years of trying to avoid things like Pasta and brownies and now I can see the end in sight my head has gone "You may as well have them now as it won't happen again for a long time, if ever again".

Thank you for those that commented about the possibility of weight gain meaning a delay in the surgery. That really got my attention and made me realize the damage I could do. Time to get it all together - yet again. :)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
