Weight Training Plans similar to Couch to 5K

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

So I've been using Couch to 5K and it's been absolutely brilliant for me. I need some guidance and Couch to 5K provides it for me. It's also forced me to walk a lot more (I'm at 11K~ average steps a day).

Now I need something for weight training. I don't want to get big, I want to get lean. I need to add muscle.

Basically - my question is, I need something similar to Couch to 5K - something that will start me off easy. I'm absolutely horrible with weight training so I need some guidance! Thanks.

I'm not too familiar with the Couch to 5K, although I've heard the name many times. But I did google an app for weight training home for ya. Here's an app that looks promising for what you might be looking for. Check out the reviews, etc.

Sorry. Thought I saved it as a pic. Let me see if I can get it posted correctly.

You're welcome. Hope it all works out for you. If I was motivated to work out at home, I would probably use this app. Looks pretty good. I like the gym though. Blessings!

Homer - did you follow the couch to 5k exactly? Were you active before? I'm thinking of doing this too. I have been going to the gym but need a structured goal.

How was the beginning of c25k for you? I'm starting tomorrow and I'm so anxious!

Sorry for not getting back sooner - about Couch to 5K.

I started at 381 (pre surgery).. by the time surgery happened (12/13), I was 341.

A month later when I was cleared to run/jog I was about 320, and I started running.

It starts out quite easy. Don't say... "oh well this is too easy" because it ramps up big time once you get to Week 3/ Week 4.

If I don't do what it recommends, I repeat it until the week is finished.

So right now I'm in week 4 but I would say I've been doing it for 5 weeks. So I'm re-doing it at times. When you are as heavy as I am, it gets hard! But it's been one of the best things I've done.

P.S I'm down to 294 now 2 months post surgery. I've had very short pleateaus but I end up just running more. Also, I make it so I average 10K steps a day, EVEN if I do C25K.

Let me know if you have any questions.

To answer your question, I'm not aware of any similar lifting program.

This is the best free resource I know of: http://www.aworkoutroutine.com

The book "Bigger Leaner Stronger" is geared toward beginners. It's more about bodybuilding but the principles are the same.

I was on day one for a few weeks and over two months have progressed to week 2. I love it. I'm preoperative with asthma. So hoping to move along faster post op

Just wanted to give everybody an update - I finished Couch to 5K today. It probably took me 12 weeks instead of the standard 9 - because of early on. I started running at about 330 pounds - I was very achy.

Now, I am 250 pounds. I can now jog for 45 minutes straight. I can not recommend this program highly enough. I only jog 3 days a week, and eat well - but I am a guy who was never able to jog 2 minutes without stopping.

Long story short - anybody who is on the edge about getting involved - do it. If I can do it, anybody can. I plan on enrolling in a 5K at the end of the year and I've never felt better.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
