anyone bought a medic-alert bracelet?

Recommended Posts

As insecure as my DH is, he is still quite helpful and supportive. He noticed on eBay that there is a medic alert Bracelet available specifically for those with lapbands. There was no mention of actually being affiliated with the Medic-Alert organization. Does anyone have any additional info or thoughts on the matter?

Hello Hope,

My DH was wondering about the same thing. Could you e-mail me or post the ebay info. I would like to check it out. Im going to see my doctor next week so I was going to ask him. I will let you know what he says.

Thanks

Lulu

Scroll down to the bottom of this page, you'll find many threads about whether to get a medic alert tag, and/or what one should say.

Hope these other threads help.

I just printed out a medic alert card with my info/dr info/husband's info/ surgery blah blah.. laminated it and have it in my wallet, with the symbol sticking out.

Knock on wood, nothing happens to me, but I'm hopeful they'd look in my wallet to find contact info if it were a serious emergency, and they'd see the card.

I was married to a paramedic and the best place to have any medic ID is on your wrist because inevitably (sp?) if something happens to you, you are going to need an IV and they are going to look at your wrist. A necklace may slide to the back of your neck and it might not be noticed until it is too late!

I always wore one prior to lap-band because I am allergic to Penicillin. So instead of ordering another stainless steal Bracelet which I didn't like anyway, I ordered a med-allert charm and had that engraved with my allergy and lap-band. This charm is on a bracelet that my daughter gave me for mother's day last year. I wear it all the time and it's pretty.

I got a pamphlet with where to order a medic alert item from the hospital at the time of discharge. I have to assume they recommend it. They also gave me a medical alert, laminated card for my wallet. It sits next to my driver's license, so if they look at that, they will see the medical alert. But I'm ordering a Bracelet too. They have such pretty ones with 14k gold, sterling and pearl beads. I would wear it even without the charm.

why the need?

if you are injured in an accident I would think they would x-ray and see the band and they wouldn’t just put a tube into your stomach without first doing a full workup<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
