hi all! I am now a gastric bypass recipient. So far the difference between the band and the bypass is night and day. No "stuck" feeling, no nausea. It's so different, and in the best way. I am only 1.5 weeks out, but even in this small amount of time, the bypass far exceeds my hopes already.

the band sucked, was unhealthy and really not manageable for me. I thought about the revision surgery for 2 years after I got my band removed and gained any weight lost back.

Finally went for it ,and I am glad so far. the only fly in the ointment is head hunger. I just keep telling myself that the feeling of wanting something will pass, and its just a feeling, not a biological need.

if a scaredy-cat like me can do it, probably anyone can do it!

ask me anything, or PM me, I am happy to share my experiences so far.

and thanks for being so positive and supportive during my journey, from 2009 to today.

Cheers!

Welcome to the club!!! I love my rny too. One thing to watch out for is acid. I had hunger pains for the first 2 weeks (also had reflux so I went on Prevacid). Sure enough the hunger pangs were gone...it was the stomach acid making me hungry.

This is all so great to hear! I am scheduled to have my revision from band to RNY on April 5th. I have been vomiting 5-6 per day for the last 3 months and I found a new surgeon who is excited for me to get this revision. Since I have had such a hard time with the band I am not so sure what to expect with the bypass but I am trying to do as much education for myself as i can!

I'm so happy to find this thread of people in the same thing I am.

Scheduled to get my band out on Feb 8. My surgeon wants to wait 3-6 months before doing revision to allow healing. I haven't spoken with the surgeon too much about which procedure to pursue--RNY or sleeve. But I am leaning toward RNY mostly because it's a sure thing. I don't want to fail again.

My surgeon said that it's best to have RNY following the band. I know I see lots of both on here but I'm going with RNY. I start my 2 week pre-op diet tomorrow! I'm very excited! I'm excited for you too!

So happy to find this! Any updates or good outcomes please share. I'm very nervous. I'm 61 and trying to decide if Bypass or sleeve is a better choice for my band revision. I hear about GERD with the sleeve but dumping with RNY.
I am leaning RNY right now. I am type II. HBP and many other weight related things. I need to get my health in control. Thanks

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
