Anyone know of Dr De Bruyne Chris

good luck Leema, everyone is lovely over there and you will be fine. I had my op on the 10th (FRiday)and was virtually pain free by wednesday. The only time I felt anything after that was turning over in bed but that gets easier as the week goes on. Weighed myself this morning and have lost a full half stone since the op. That to me makes it well worth a little bit of pain.

Hope everything goes well x

Sussie, I know how you must be feeling, but if Freddyboy said he could feel the saline pushing then there's no way you have a leak.

When I had my leak, it just trickled straight through.

I've heard of that before, people not getting any restriction, maybe you should mail Freddy and explain, and maybe he will offer you a free fill, or at least some advice.

Sorry I cant help you  let us know what happens.

The way I got to my sweetspot was not hardly eating anything for a couple of days and it tightens up like mad.

Although lots of people just get to their sweetspot without doing that.

Amazed have sent the pic to your mail addy, just now.

Thank you all for the advice x

One final thing - Vitamins etc - what do you use?

I know some vits won't fit through the band.

Also, i am on thyroxine and fluoxetine, anyone else on these and had difficulties after the op?

Thanks again everyone xxx

Thanks all who gave me advice. I did book hotel campanile wit Bridget. But taxi included is no longer offered. Does anyone know how much taxi is from airport to hotel? Also I bought jeans almost 2 sizes too big to wear over as I understand that my tummy will bloat after surgery. Does that seem ok or should I wear sweats?

As a matter of interest, how many of you told your doctor you were doing this BEFORE the op?

I have not told my GP. She signed me up for LighterLife about 2 1/2 years ago and i lost 2 stone, broke my wrist and gradually gained it back.

I am 5' 6' and weigh 14st 5 lbs so my bmi is about 33.

I am interested to know how they reacted when you told them what you had done and where you had gone to get it done.

Forewarned is forearmed etc.

I have just checked in online for my flight tomorrow. SCARY!

Its really happening. blimey!

I told mg GP. She wanted to know a bit about the surgeon and arrangements for aftercare but she was great. My BMI was nearly 36 and we agreed it was time to take things in hand. I'm popping in to see her next week- I think she is quite curious. She has only had one patient have a gastric balloon and they had loads o complications so I think I am her band guinnea pig,

Good Luck for tuesday

Hi to all some advice needed from anyone who has had problems with thier band (faults/leaks) how did you know something was wrong?

i was banded in May and have had 4 fills so far totalling 7.1mls i still dont have great restriction and can still manage a decent sized portion of food can eat everything bread, chicken and even steak. i have lost 2.5 stone but most of that was just after surgery and have really struggled to lose since any advice would be helpful as im now really really getting down and worried something is wrong even though Fred said at my last fill that he could feel the Fluid pushing back and thats why he could only manage to put in .6mls last time and that he felt i should have really good restriction now.

Advice needed please

Sue

Hi Sussie

If you still dont have good restriction and you are worried I would go back and see Dr Chris or Frederik and ask them to take ALL the Fluid out and check how much is in there, that way you will know for definate whether you have a leak or not. When I had a leak the fluid was pushing back when they did the fill so that doesnt always mean that everything is okay. The fluid was also clear (its normally a different colour when there is a leak). I guess everyone is different.

Try not to get too disheartened you have still done well losing 2.5 stone. You may be one of the unlucky ones who needs a few fills before they get good restriction.

The reason I would suggest getting the band checked now is because I paid for 9 fills before having my band checked for a leak and its cost me a bloody fortune in fills that were going in one end and coming out the other.

Let us know how you get on.

Hey all.

I'm a newbie and am in the process of making some big life changes. I've contaced a couple of places in in Ireland about gastric banding but they were way too expensive. I've heard a lot about Dr De Bruyne and Dr Focquet. Is there a difference between either surgeons?

I've not heard much about Dr Focquet but he was recommended to me by a contact person that I had emailed about surgery in Brussels.

If there's anyone that could pass on some information on packages and procedures I would be very greatful. I'm hoping to go in January as it's the only chance I have to go due to educational committments.

Congratulations to all of you who have had the procedure. Here's hoping I will have similar success in the future. Looking forward to hearing from someone x

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
