Hi Gillian, I was just wondering, does Dr Chris tell you to get someone to remove your stitches now, as when I had my band (just last August) he told me to just snip them off as they came through! I was told to look for a blue thread where the port is (but I never did find it!!!) I did have one, in your word's "like a fishing line" where the port is, which was pulled so tight that my skin was puckered-up, so I cut it (with great difficulty, as it was so tight) and pulled it out myself. What a relief!!!! Half the pain I had was because it was stitched so tight!:thumbdown: Kath.x

thanks!..im gonna snip em tomorrow then!..that is causing me discomfort at the mo, nothing else!..will be relieved surely.. but yes there is one that we have to get removed with thick blue string,,,you cant have had one of those then cos you cant miss it! perhaps hes just started doing that with the blue string?! thanks for advice, gillian x

I thought the blue stitch is where the drain was? i get mine out on mon afternoon... iv already snipped the 'fishing line' stitches as they were quite long. With the pain killers i managed ok with the nurofen melts and found they worked for me, i couldn't stomach the one's you put in Water, and i dont like medicine. I can even sleep on my stomach again, thank god. I can start having a decent sleep again x

Hi Mooster/Kath, thanks for taking the time to pass on your info. I am at same stage as my sister Gillian with stitches - we both go for the 'blue' one out on Tuesday. How long after surgery was it before you cut and removed the one causing you trouble? Mine keep going through stages of feeling tight and causing bit of pain/discomfort. Thanks again, bigsister x

Hi Bigsister, once my dressings were off for good and the stitches were poking through, thats when I started cutting them. I also cut the one that was bothering me about the same time, as the wound was closed ok. It did mention in my paperwork about removing the "blue one" myself, but as I said, I never did find it!!!! Probably floating around on the inside somewhere!!!!!!!!! Kath. x

Thanks for that, although I can't remember being told how long we had to keep the dressings on for. It will be 10 days on Monday and it does say in the info that you can 'snip' the dissolving ones then so if any seem to be giving me trouble will consider doing that then. Thanks again!

Hi, I have been viewing your posts for a few weeks now, I never get time to post as I have a 3 year old and 2 year old twins. I am getting banded on 13th Feb and am getting really nervous. Is the pain really bad?? Is the hospital staff friendly?? Thanks

Hi lewisabbeyalyssa the hospital staff were great, they can't do enough for you. You will be in pain for the 1st couple of days which is to be expected after all your having surgery, everyday the pain will be less. Im just over a week of being banded and have no pain what so ever. Hope this helps x

What a difference a day makes!!!!:w00t:

Went to Boots in the evening yesterday and bought Panadol Extra for the pain (The only one to claim to be sensitive on the stomach as well as be dissovable in water). They worked a treat for the normal stitch pain etc I can't even begin to tell you. Also they really did not cause me any tummy troubles and the pills Dr Chris gave me seemed to be working as a laxative.. (TMI sorry)

I also got some Spearmint Rennies for the trapped wind. With in an hour of taking them both, I just had this feeling... Of nothing. FOr the first time in days. It was amazing I was able to drink down my cup a Soup with out feeling swollen and like i was choking it down, and just felt good. No horrible pain nothing. I even managed to sleep through the night and only woke up once from being a little sore.

A miracle I tell you. Hope anyone else having the same problems as me gives them a go. I am amazed any over the counter medicines can work that well, when I felt soo sick!!

Hi Lewisabbeyalyssa. Think you are being banded on the same day as mmm? Yes, the hospital staff are really good and helpful, don't hesitate to ask for or about anything. Think the thing about pain is to not to expect your experience to be the same as anyone else's, you just have to 'go with the flow'. Some have felt absolutely fine and others have had a bit of a rough start, but if you do have pain, shout up to someone cos there is always something that you can be given in the form of relief. I felt quite rubbish for about 18 hrs after surgery then felt great on leaving hospital but then had a couple of small setbacks. You will need to give yourself as much time as you can to rest (even if you do feel fine) which is easier said than done I suppose with your lively bunch but get all the help you can. Keep looking in on the forum, even if you don't get chance to post much, it really does help, and at least let us know how you go on once you are back. Take care, bigsister x

Forgot to mention that I have lost 6 kilo since monday!

well done!! and so glad your feeling a lot better, every day youll be even more so..I am just having bit of jip with stitches being tight when i bend down or get up, hopefully that will ease soon as they dissolve.I now feel like i havent had a band put in and am getting the munchies. expect that happens to most people as the time goes on after first week!..got to be strict with myself! I think my weight loss is gonna be slower than other peoples, until ive had a few fills anyway, but i dont mind im expecting it to be about 2 years anyway ill do it slowly, like fern! and as long as i lose a little bit each month, and dont put on, ill be happy. took all these years to put on, take time to get it off suppose. Gillian x

AMAZING, well done you, I'm so pleased to hear that you are now out of pain, and on the mend, the messages that are being put forward is not to do to much to soon. Boy are my going to take advantage of that, I'll be like the queen of Sheeba, "fetch this, fetch that, fluff my pillows, I need a foot massage". and then I'll wake up, never mind I can dream on.

Wonder full news on your weightloss, does anyone one know how to get one of those ticker thingies. If so can you let me know in very simple steps please (no good at computers). Thanks

Hiya peeps,

Glad to hear that everyone's recovering little by little and welcome to the newbies!!

Just to remind people that I've set up a group called 'Gastric Band Patients of Dr Christiaan de Bruyne' over on Facebook if anybody would like to join. There's 5 of us now and we're looking for more members!

We'll be able to start lots of different topics that relate to our lapband experience over there if anyone would like to join.

I've started a topic where we can all introduce ourselves, and another one about life with the band, but as yet, without a fill. Come on over and join us!!

Speak to you all soon,

Miss Flump x x x

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
