Three fills and no restriction

Recommended Posts

I am getting ready for my fourth fill on Thursday and I yet to have that full feeling. I can control my diet not my band. I am very discouraged at this point. The weight loss is only 4-5 pounds.

I am almost a year into my band and my 7th fill and I feel exactly the same as you. I feel hungry a lot of the time and I can't always control my diet. I lost 30lbs very quickly but I have gained 12lbs back over the last 8 months. I feel your disappointment.

During my six months of pre-approval classes through the bariatric center of excellence I went through I learned that with the lapband I will not necessarily feel full. Instead I will fill a restriction and that is my reminder. I weigh and measure my food and I track it. I will have a full cup of turkey chili and I stop. It takes me 20 minutes to feel full. I limit my meal time to 20 munutes and watch my portion and calories. I'm down 10 pounds a month starting in October. For me it takes self discipline. My lapband is only one tool I use.

It's not how many fills you get, but how much saline is put in your band...

I had three fills, but they were generous ones and I have been great for 6 six yesrs now, good restictions and lack of hunger.

I know someone whose Dr. would only put .5 to 1 cc of Fluid in at a time...after a full year, 1 fill per month, she was only where I was in the first few months.

Also it is important to know, as you get band adjustments, you need to slowly adjust yourself to match what the band is doing. You cannot contine with the old mindset when the band is trying to do it's job.

You will be unhappy, get Fluid taken out to match what YOU want to do, then turn around and say the band does not work.

I need to add, people react differently...there are people on this forum who are perfectly pleased with their bands and never had a fill.

Yeah, that's me! It will be a year in February and I've only had .5 put in every time I've been.

Still only have 3.5cc

I've had 2 fills to get to 5.5 cc. I'm grateful my doctor was able to put in as much as he did each time. I feel really good with where I'm at right now.

I was banded in 2010. I think the band worked very well for me for about 6 1/2 years.
Then, my band slipped. My doctor repositioned it earlier this year. Since then, she has adjusted the fill 3 times, the last one "under flouro". Now, she seems sure it is adequately filled and I have no sense of restriction.

I think my doctor thinks I want my band overly full. I think I want it adequately full. Has anyone had a similar problem? Do you have suggestions?

Hmm - Have any of you asked for a second opinion?

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
