You just do it.. If you can't do it now what do you think is going to happen AFTER surgery? .. You have to follow rules the too or you could not only make yourself sick but could cause yourself serious harm.. You have to St your mind to making the changes and do it or the surgery won't do a thing for you.. Be strong

Munky

BTW.. That liquid diet is for your benefit.. To shrink your liver to help surgery go well

liquid diet is really hard. But post surgery diet is really hard too. You need to have a long think about whether you are ready. Right now, it isn't life threatening, but it will be after surgery. If you think you are ready, then prove it to yourself by following your diet this week.

I agree with everything Munky said.

If you are on a liquid diet, then you need to follow it. It's as simple as that. I did it. Others have done it. If you really want this surgery to work, then you will do it NOW.

I recommend that you seriously think about whether you are really ready for surgery. It isn't a magic pill; you will have to work hard and make good decisions regarding food and drink in order to be successful.

Blizair09 speaks the truth. If you can't handle the liquid diet now...what are you going to do after you have the surgery? This is a LIFESTYLE change, not a magic pill. Once you have that surgery, its real. EVERY SINGLE DAY is a struggle. I just started a blog that talks about my love and addiction of food. That will never change. I have to start every single day saying that I'm going to eat healthy and do what I should and not cheat. I could eat all day long and if I did, I would start to gain my weight back. This surgery is only a tool to help you get on track.

I wish you the best of luck and I hope that you find the willpower to stay strong. You can do it!

It might also help to check out a few surgery videos on YouTube - when you see the liver retractor being used to physically lift the liver up and out of the way so the surgeon has room to manipulate the stomach, it could be a good visual reminder about why your doctor needs the liver to be as small and "floppy" as possible. It truly is a safety issue during surgery.

You just do it. It's hard. It sucks. It gets better after day 3 in my opinion but you need to do it all in. If you don't either they will end up cutting your entire stomach open and recovery is much worse or worse even they will cancel surgery.

They will know you didn't follow it and cancel once they get in there. There is no cheating on this.

But others are right. This is hard but not the hardest part. You need to commit 100% for yourself. You are worth it!!

My surgeon said that he has closed 2 patients back up on the table without preforming the surgery because he could tell they didn't follow his surgical guidelines. He said that he is not going to get hit with a malpractice suite because he damages her liver in the process since she didn't follow the directions to prepare her body for the procedure. This is serious. You have to follow that diet, or be prepared for the surgery to be cancelled. It's important.

Forget the shrinking of the liver and the emptying of the stomach and the loss of the last few pounds before surgery (not that those things are all not important, because they definitely are!)

The pre-op liquid diet is the beginning of how things are going to be as soon as you wake up from surgery. You will wake up and will not be able to have anything other then some Water, maybe some broth, depending on what your surgeon's post-op plan is. When you wake up, there's no room for not doing the liquid diet, because it IS the diet. Make sure you're in the best mindset possible for surgery! It is so important! You can do this - take a deep breath, be honest with your surgeon, and start over tomorrow. You've got this.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
