My surgery is on the 25th of January and I had to do three weeks of liquid diet. It consists of five shakes a day Water, sugar free Jello and sugar free ice pops. I like the shakes but getting sick of drinking Water and can have tea. It can be done.

Day 13. Down to 320.6 as of this morning. That's about 16 pounds since I started the pre-op diet. Tomorrow is my clear liquid day and surgery Wednesday morning. Mildly freaking out, but doing okay.

Day 4 of my liquid diet begins! I am down 7lbs but one thing this had showed me is that I definitely need the surgery. There is no way I could pull on Oprah and do a liquid diet for months like she did. It must have been heart breaking to gain it all back after going thru that. I personally am glad to be going back to work today to keep me distracted for the rest of my liquid diet. Surgery is on Friday and I am ready. For me it is the waiting that's the hardest part. I just want the surgery done so I can begin my healing.

Going through this pre-op diet I've asked myself multiple times that maybe I should just do this for a few months and avoid the surgery, but I know I'd gain it all back in due time. Went from almost 400 down to 265 by living at the gym, and then slowly crept back up to almost 350. I'm tired of the yo-yo. Been overweight since I was a kid and I'm ready to be done with it.

So day 3 of liquid diet and I have cheated already was so tired and dizzy at work i had some of the luch that was put on for staff at a training day. I am so glad I am getting this surgery to end this crazy relationship I have with food. Just worried that I have cheated and the risks.

It is something to be concerned with. I cheated with about a dozen saltines on day 3 or 4. I know...I'm so wild...lol. Point is that afterwards I realized what in the hell am I doing risking everything I've done over the past 6 months. Isn't worth it. It really does get easier. Days 3 & 4 were hardest for me. My doc is a hard case so I don't doubt for second he'd scrap the surgery if he saw that my liver was still enlarged.

Time will pass. Keep yourself busy and walk away when things get hard. You can do it! Use that fear to keep you on the up and up from here on out.

I am on day 3 out of 12 on my pre-op diet. 4 Protein shakes or bars a day plus one high protein/low carb meal.

I really struggled yesterday with feeling SO HUNGRY... but today I'm feeling more confident. I think a lot of my anxiety on this diet is caused by me being so used to eating and snacking on things that taste a certain way.

The shakes and bars are NOT tasty... in fact, they are kind of gross. But they DO make me feel full... so I'm trying to get used to the fact that if I'm feeling full and craving other stuff at the same time, it's really not HUNGER... it's HEAD hunger and it's essential that I train my body to deal with it better.

Have you tried the Eas shakes they are pretty good tasting

progress starts in the mind

No, I haven't been able to find those around here. I do Premier Protein Shakes... the only flavor I am starting to be okay with is chocolate... I can't do the bars anymore at all, or other brands of shakes (the bars are too dry & take too much chewing to be able to swallow and other brands of shakes make me gag because they are so icky).

I'm on day 11 of my luver shrinking diet now... I did better after day 3... but I admit it... my surgery is the day after tomorrow, so after lunch tomorrow I'm on Clear liquids only... and I gave in to temptation today and ate a donut :-(

Why? Maybe because my brain was telling me I may never eat anything enjoyable again so one last donut wasn't going to kill me. Maybe because last night my husband commented that I "take everything to to extremes unnecessarily"... including this diet, and how he is sure I could have eaten half a cheeseburger and some fries one day and it would have been fine. I don't know, but I did it and I feel guilty and am determined to stay on track the rest of today and tomorrow.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
