I know every person/body/experience will be different. I don't compare myself to others, but it is nice to see how far people get in those first few months :)

No one is comparing. The original question asked how much people are losing. Everyone is different.

Yup. For comparison, I'm 16 weeks out (sleeved 9/21) and my surgery weight was 192 and I'm now 168.

The statement the poster made about thinking they were doing something wrong because they haven't lost as much was a comparison of weight loss, correct?

Look, I've been around the block with this. I've seen people get their panties in a wad because they haven't lost as much as their aunt's cousin's sister's best friend did. There are HUNDREDS of posts I've seen over the last 3 years about "slow weight loss". It's human nature to want to compare, but I'm just saying it can be a potentially self destructive and demotivating road to go down. I know, and I don't want to see others fall into that trap. After all, comparison is the thief of joy.

It's definitely not easy. I follow diets to the T, in fear of hurting myself. But my problem is with hunger. I think they forgot to remove that part lol. I'm now on full liquids but always hungry. The smell of real food and makes me even hungrier. I can tolerate 6 ozs of anything but I've noticed if I eat 6 ozs every meal I stall. So my number to keep loosing is 4 ozs or less per meal every 2 hours.

Someone posted this in another forum.

loss is extremely variable and has mostly to do with genetics in the first year.

That makes me feel like I am doing something right anyway. Thanks for posting that.

Please please please please please DO NOT compare your rate of loss to others. It is a recipe for misery and disaster. You will only spend all of your days hating yourself and questioning all of your actions, wondering "what am I doing wrong?!?!?" It's miserable and completely pointless. There is no reason you have to lose your weight *quickly* post-op. Your sleeve is forever. You will have PLENTY of time to lose the weight. And once you have lost the weight and reached your goal, how long it took you to get there will be completely meaningless. I was a "slow" loser by everyone's definition.

I "only" lost 15 pounds the first month. I "only" lost 8 pounds the second month. I "only" lost about 6 pounds per month the next five months. I "only" lost 2-3 pounds per month for a while after that. You know where all of those "onlys" got me? To goal! Where I have been happily maintaining for well over a year. In the end, how fast you reach goal is completely insignificant.

I agree with what everyone is saying about not comparing yourself to others as it can be a recipe for disaster. However, I would also like to add that it was EXTREMELY helpful to me to see threads like this pre-op. Like many, I was anxious about the surgery, the results and what to expect.

I definitely sought out these types of threads, and the more people that posted their results, the better, as I was looking to see a wide range of results to get a feel for what might happen.

After reading dozens of these threads it seemed like most people lost around 10-25lbs a month. Men and people with higher BMIs generally lost the fastest, and the weight loss tapers off as the months go by.

For me, it wasn't so much a comparison as it was an exercise in gaining perspective.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
