UK sleevers......which protein?

Recommended Posts

Hey! I'm new to the app and due for surgery in around 8 weeks. Trying to get everything together for post op but really struggling with which Protein to get? I see most people across the pond tend to go with Premier Protein, but that's not available over here. So what are our options?

I have mine in 2 days, most UK surgeons don't do shakes! It's clear fluids and then mushy then solid, they want us on solid asap because the hunger pangs go and you stay fuller than with a Protein drink. There may be some surgeon s out there that do shakes but not mine. Hope all goes well for you.

My protein.com is an online co, with fast delivery (never pay extra for faster delivery). You can buy sample size packs so that you can try out flavours. Use whey Protein.< /p>

I'm having my op on Thursday (mini bypass) - I've bought unflavoured whey Protein and some flavoured sample shakes from myprotein - oh and oat flour too.

No idea what they recommend but I didn't want to come home just to have to go shopping....

I was told to use Atkins , or Carnation Breakfast Essentials "no sugar added" with one cup of fat free, or 1% milk, I was also told it has to be either or no mix and match.

Amazon UK sell lots of Protein powder. I found it a must post op as needed to get the Protein in. Myprotein is a good option and they have dozens of flavours but I've moved on to Bulk powder just because my taste changes overnight and one flavour I like suddenly becomes disgusting. They normally come in 500g or 1kg bags which is unfortunate if you do change your taste because you can end up with bags you don't need. My friend brought round a box of his Protein Powder he uses for workouts and I tried one of each so was able to choose one I liked then order that one.

whey protein seems to be the best option.

My surgeon does want me off the shakes eventually once I'm getting all my protein in with food. Personally I'm happy starting my morning with a Protein shake as it starts me off with 26g protein already in (I have it with milk). Then the rest of the day is through food.

Good luck! X

Speaking of myprotein - what are the best flavours? I don't do sickly sweet, hence I bought the unflavoured. Apart from that I'd probably get the coffee one. Has anyone got any suggestions?

I have heard that sticking to something fairly benign such as vanilla or chocolate seems to fit with most people. I lost any interest in sweet things immediately post op so anything that was already sweet suddenly seemed disgusting.

I would get smaller pouches of powder first to try just in case you don't like them. I loved banana powder pre op and got a big bag then when I came back from hospital it tasted like vomit.

It'll be a learning thing :) x

Oh dear - I have a feeling we might have similar taste buds.... I remember looking forward to eating ice cream after my tonsil extraction and once they were actually out, ice cream seemed like the food of the devil! Just the thought would make me gag....
I was hoping they might allow me oat flour pretty soon after? I can make a savoury Soup out of that... just stock, oats and I guess I could add milk and unflavoured whey Protein to that also. I just cant see myself on a sweet diet - I do not have a sweet tooth.... x

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
