Are you looking for the BariatricPal Store? Go now!

Did you ever...? (a bit gross)

Recommended Posts

...chew up food and spit it out while on your liquid diet? I'm dying to crunch SOMETHING, so this afternoon, I chewed up a pickle, but didn't swallow a bite.

It satisfied something in me, though. I just needed that hard & crispy sensation. Other than this, I've been following Dr's order exactly (Down 15lbs since 12/23).

Am I a total weirdo or have any of you resorted to something so silly while fighting through your liquid diet?

I can understand the appeal of crunchy and sour, but this behavior is a dangerously slippery slope. Best to concentrate on doing the eating plan exactly and looking toward the future you that is the reason for this whole effort, and thinking about complete life changes you are making, rather than cutting corners, especially ones that might get you in trouble that might be hard to overcome. These first weeks go by really fast, actually. I was just getting really good at stage 3 when I suddenly was allowed stage four, and it was a surprise as I had lost track of time while concentrating on my journey.

Maybe try exercise and/or yoga or new hobbies or other distractions. Lately I have noticed that I now surf stores for flowers instead of food as I used to. I just bought a hyacinth bulb growing in a glass vase that I am as happy about as I used to be with a big candy bar. That is worth a lot to me.

Makes me think of this addiction business that was in California in the 70s that claimed to rid people of food, smoking, and drinking addictions. My mom's friend who battled her weight constantly joined and said as part of the program, they would have you bring in your favorite foods, make you chew them up, then spit it out and eat it again and again until you supposedly developed an aversion to it. That image has been burned in my brain since I was about 7 years old!

I've been exercising regularly and am discovering new ways to occupy my time, thanks. I know what I did wasn't protocol, but I was looking for feedback from others who did the same as myself, without judgement.

Yikes, a room full of people spitting out food sounds awful.

you are a total weirdo!!

don't trade one bad habit of ie overating

for the "chew and spit" method ways

another transfer would be improving your eating

habits - to all of a sudden drinking alcohol in excess

leave the pickles to the preggo's ;)

don't worry @@White Sale - i still luv ya

great weight loss - 15 lbs gone!!!!

woooo hooooo!!

good luck

I've done it. I'm 13 days out of surgery and back to making food for my family. Sadly, food I cannot eat... (My husband cannot cook and they both have been suffering from eating easy to make meals for a few weeks now.).

So I made them some steak the other day and while I have been able to stay away from everything else the smell of that steak was killing me. So I did what I thought would help me. I chewed upon the steak and spit it out and fed it to my dog.

The psychologist once said if it is bothering you to the point you are obsessing over it. You can set idealistic goals for yourself on how to address your cravings. Now I'm sure they didn't mean 13 days post-OP but, it worked and after 4 bites and spitting it out I was satisfied.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
